E-Maxx Help Needed

I am looking to lower the gear ratio on my E-Maxx to use it for some rock crawling. It has a 18 tooth pinion gear and a 66 tooth spur gear. I was thinking of going to a 9 tooth pinion gear and a 72 tooth spur gear. Would that be a good ratio for rock cralwing? The 18/66 gives a final ratio of 29:1 to the wheels, im estimating that the 9/72 gears will give me a final ratio of 52:1.

might not be good to go to 9 pinions. probly should stay in the teen numbers for pinion and go slightly higher on spur. i dont do much crawling, but i know if oyu want a serious crawler, you have to build it from the ground up. are you using stock motors?

like i said before, if you want a good crawler, you got to build it yourself. the maxx truck is not a crawler. its a basher and racer. you can do small stuff. very small stuff, but nothing big. a good crawler will take tons of money and custom parts. im saying a slightly bigger spur and slightly smaller pinion will get over stuff fine though. not much though. just a few teeth.

Im not looking to do anything extreme, but i plan to put spools on front and rear diffs to lock them. I also dont want to spend huge amounts of $$$$

your not going to get a crawler out of it. not a real crawler. small stuff. if oyu dont want to spend much money, just put a spool on the front. savea few bucks. and like i said a few teeth smaller pinions and few teeth larger spur. not much though. some moab tires or somethign that will grip good on hard surfaces.

It'll work just fine. It's your truck, and if you want to play around with crawling, do it. Do the mods you want to do, and go drive it. So what if it's not a ultra super hardcore competition rig. It's a toy car for crissake..... and so is a ultra super hardcore competition rig...........

will u want to do any jumping and fast stuff? or solely crawling? if you want to bash some too, then yes its too low, if you are going to be crawling only, it might be ok. probly heat the motors faster though. id just go a little lower pinion and little higher spur. not much of a jump.

spools tear up your gears usually. so oyu might want just a front and a steel gear up there.
