I have a bunch of individual cells that I use to race with. They have been out of commission for at least 8 years. They were all fully discharged when I put them away. If I rebuild them what steps should I take to getting them back in shape(not to race, just goofin' around)? Are they even worth fooling with? I can't remember too many details about them, but they were mediocre racing cells when I bought them. A lot of the info labels are too faded to read, but they all had about the same numbers when they were new. The only charger equipment I have is an old Pro-Tech basic and a Tekin peak charger that was really good when I bought it, but a good 10 years old.

You would be giving up LOTS of power to modern cells. The voltage capability and internal resistance of the latest stuff is WAY better than even 2 years ago. The cells will probably work but they will seem slow.

Yeah, I've been researching the latest batteries and it's pretty amazing. I mostly mess with my GT anyway, but I hate the thought of replacing $300 worth of cells. I'll probably just buy a couple of mid-range packs and add the old cells to my late 80's-90's r/c museum in the basement.

Run them through a few cycles and see how they respond.

Worst case scenario is that you use them for practice and bashing.

If you can get them to charge at all, they might run the car around. But you will be so far down in power you won't believe it.

Batteries go bad with time. At some point the chemical reaction......won't react.

Radio Shack sells GP3300's for about $25 a pack. While not up to a pack of IB's, they would be much, much better than 8 year old stuff.

Yes Battery technology is changing real fast. They are coming out with 4700's soon. I'm looking into Slingshots right now.

I use my old cells as starter packs and glow plug warmers.

They dont like sitting. I had 4 new packs a Trinity power brick. Didnt use them for 8 months and went to race and got blown away. Were cycled 4 times.
This is why i like niro so much.
