Finally got to test mine... and I could hardly believe it!

-Steering
-Grip
-Bump handling

This really is "legal cheating"!!!

And one more thing! It was actually more fun than driving a 4WD - you can be as aggressive as you like!

X-Factory rules!

HI Everyone,
I'm new to the X-Family,
Just recieved my X-6 kit in the mail.
Does anyone know why the motor sits on the side it sits on?
I mean oposite (left and right speaking) to all other cars.
It seems that if it just turned to the other side (180 degrees) the 4th gear would not be needed.
Also, what about getting rid of the 2 idler gears completely, that would make it go forward as well while still sitting in the same X6 position.

Maybe the direction of the motor helps with the handling?

any ideas?????????????????????/

The reason for the motor flip is for the handling. In the early X6 they did not flip the motor. Now this flip is putting the rotational forces to work for the chassis to increase the handling of the car. I have an old one and a new one and I have to say that I am not a good enough driver to really get a consistent difference between the 2. But I know others that do see that the new lay out is better.

Moving the motor allowed the buggy to take advantage of the torque created by the motor. This translates to better acceleration and better control in the jumps.

You can't get rid of the 2 idler gears. The motor would be too close to diff and sit right where the outdrives would go.

I believe it is a ROAR rule the trans has to be a minimum 3 gears? schumacher used to have a 2 gear/belt trans and somebody made one for the rc10, many years ago????

Everyone's right on, the motor is oriented the way it is so that it's torque helps the car gain traction on acceleration as well as to make the pitch of the car more controllable in the air. You could not do this without the idler gears because it becomes impossible to get a good final drive ratio, as the spur gear would have to cover up the outdrives (or you would need a massive diff gear which would reduce ground clearance, XXX4 style).

Dave - That's something I've heard from other people as well, but there is nothing in the ROAR rules stipulating how many actual gears need to be in the transmission. They simply say it must be a single-speed transmission, ie, no 2-speeds devices.

Paul, for a time line we are talking the early 90's when this came out, I am sure the rules have changed. But from what I was told the there was a distinct advantage with the schumacher belt trans. Unfortunaly todays motors and batteries would probably shread a belt. This was back in the 1200mah SCE era. I just dated myself again!

I've been running this set-up for the last few months and its really been working well, I've been happy with it not only at Hot Rod but also at the indoor track in Nashville, and the indoor track at CRCRC.

Has anyone had a kit arrive with a gronked up part?
I got my kit and the wing mount was bent, I sent an email with a pic of the suspect part to try and get a replacement,
I get no reply from the xfactory.
I am keen to run the car, but without a wing, its pointless.
