Chris, for racing at SoCal I would say, a 15t pinion.

Anywhere else I'd probably go up a tooth or two from your P2K2.
Isn't the 13.5 supposed to be a torque motor?

But remember 15 at SoCal.

I talked to charlie at novak and he said 2 teeth higher than what a brushed motor gets....guess i will play with it!

I run a 20-21 on my B4 with a monster. I went with a 23 on the 13.5 I tried a 24 but my local track is high bite so the 23 felt better. I have not tried the 13.5 in my truck yet.

I just got a 13.5 for me XXX-CR and checked the Novak site for gearing info. They are saying to gear it with a FDR of 7. If I did the math right, that would be a 27t pinion with the stock 78t spur. That sounds way too high.

I'm using 22/86 in my MF2. I thought it was too high but the motor/esc barely gets warm.

It may sound way high, but that seems to be what they want. Here at Planet a lot of racers have made the switch to 13.5s, and on the B4 they are running 24t to 26t with an 81.

in my b4 i ran 81/24 for a good 8-10 minutes, pulled it off and temp'd the motor at about 80-deg F (65-deg air temp) and the gtb was 114-def F (without the fan - fan is mounted now though)

with temps like that i was thinking about going to 81/26 and 87/22 in the truck....but its 87/20 right now in the t4 till i run this thursday.

It's not too high at all. I ran the 13.5 in my RB5 with a 78t spur and a 17t pinion. The motor and ESC had a temp under 120 degrees. On a bigger track I think you could use an even bigger pinion if it would fit.

I'm running my RB-5 at 76/31 right now and it comes off at 80-something. It's a REALLY big track, but I've always run at least 27-29. There's almost no such thing as "too high" with a sintered 13.5. They have crazy torque.

FYI -- the onroad guys run FDR's from 3.50 to 4.50, depending on the track.

Gear it to the moon!

In my RB5 I am running 27/78...others around here are running 26-28T as well.
