If you want the jammin then buy it Is this your first RC period.. There are plenty of guys here to help you on line. Theres already a jammin thread on here.

do i need those? It said that under the required stuff... i can't use regular batteries?

If you have a cordless drill, you can use that. That will save you the cost of a battery and charger. I used that with my lst2 all summer. It will last longer and no maintenance issues with the handstarter.
I recommend that to most of the people who buy kits with shaft start at the shop I work at. Most people who are new to this hobby love to save a buck or two when they just shelled out $500+
