there are 3 reasons it could be a dog. first is yes you may need a 19 pinion, next is batteries( if your not using 4200 or 4300's) and then the speed control can all hold you back. the track will let you know your dying out there. to really compete you will need the newest esc from Novak or lrp. but i don't recomend them as they always have troubles with their electronics. then get better batteries. then don't believs that 17t on the side of your rtr truck. its not the same even as our 27t stock motors, much less a true mod or 19t motor.

you don't need the newest esc and the newest batteries....

im running an novak gt7 and orion 3300sp2s, but im using a new trinity co27 motor and trinity cobalt mods too....the most important thing is a good motor with the correct gearing....good batteries and a good esc are important, if your running the rtr esc and 3300 stick packs you will see a disadvantage...

just as good as the novak gtx for club racing

best stock motor available in my opinion (except for the epic xx stock - illegal motor - has ball bearings)

great packs for club level racing i have 6 packs that im still using, all take 3000-3200 charge after 2 1/2 years with voltages from 1.180 to 1.197

well an 81 spur is quite small for a truck, causing a loss of low end torque which you need for truck. and for it to impress it needs to take off, in front of your buddies. past that against any other newer trucks out there it just won't stay with them. the internal gear ratios have changed so much since when yours was built.

i just remebered that teambirdman.com has a gear ratio chart in it. if you can look up what your gear ratio is you will then be able to what the best pinion/spur combo would be.
