hi guys,
I really didnt see any recommended cell threads, so I figured Id ask.
-Im looking to make them my self
-I dont need the craziest stuff around, as im just getting into this electric stuff(my xxx-cr will be here thurs)

Also can someone suggest a good battery jig, and a good discharger

Cells, buy the best you can buy as long as you have gear to maintain. I have 3 year old batts that challenge newer cell that are less well maintained.
Dont mess with any jig other than Novak. Use it once,and try otehrs and this will become abundantly clear.

look at High Velocity for good batteries , get a equalizing tray that drops to 0.9 you can find them for about $45 used for a novak and a charger that has a motor run in on it

Check out Rematch Racing through my sig. They have 3800 blow out prices which would be less per pack then the cells you're showing, and the packs will better as they are matched.

I have run pro-match batteries, very good batteries. The one problem I had with them, I called them up and they replaced my whole pack. Look and promatch.com, they have all different ranges of batteries.

I ordered a set of orion gp4300mah cells last night also. This is gonna get expensive!

It doesnt have to be all that expensive. Personally my favorite batteries right now are the unmatched SMC IB4200's. Tons of power and at an amazingly low price. They come as stick packs, so I just cut the shrink wrap off, rip them apart, dremel off the little bits left on the ends from the welded on tabs, then assemble just as you would any matched pack. Get a Dean's battery building jig, and the Novak smart tray is one I use, it is very simple to use and works great. Just equalize the packs down to 0.9V per cell after you race then put about 1000mah in them if you are going to race again next week and they are good to go. IMO there is no need for matched packs unless your running in a ultra competitive stock class, for mod you can easily make run time with less than 3000mah, and its offroad so of course power is rarely ever an issue. To tell you the truth the IB3600 stick packs from SMC do just as well as the 4200's, and they are insanely cheap. 90% of the guys at my local track run 3600's.

I would stay away from the 4200's and especially 4300's until you are up to speed with maintenance and care. We have experienced competitive racers at our track, and they have had several episodes of failures with those cells. A couple pretty spectacular. I think they may be getting pushed a little hard. The bottom line is that you can get a heck of a deal on the 3700's and 3800's with the newer cells being in demand now.

I had one of those spectacular episodes at the track Mike is talking about...although I don't have a clue what I am doing.
