Default Bullet proofing a xx4

I'm buying a xx4 in a couple of days, Please tell me the areas that need to be made stronger and how. As of now I don't wish to convert to an X-5. Possibly later. I will be running 4wheel mod. I have a xxx4 now, but I'm converting over. I've posted on a couple of forums to get as many people to see this.
Thanks

Save some money and buy an aluminum bulkhead as they are very prone to breaking.

Lots of info here: 4wd Forums

Aluminum bulkhead shouldn't be necessary if you've got the white 10* bulkhead and use the associated b2/b3 brace across the front of the hinge pins.

Doug,
When you come to Dallas you will see what guys have done to really help.
1-Put a B2,B3 front brace on it.Takes a lil cutting but not much at all.CURES the bulkhead issue.
2-Look on 4wdrc.com and buy Chazz's screws for the front spindles. They DO help.
3-Get the Penquin Shock Tower Kit.It does help.
4-Being you really ONLY use the 1st 2 holes on the rear shock tower on the TOP...Cut the other one's off and round off the edge.
The MORE that hangs off the easier it is to break.

When you move down here bring me a Dragon R/C B4 rear bulkhead with the extra camber hole.

Les

I run a Associated B2 front brace. I run CVd's in the front.
Also instead of running the blue front belt. Go with a green belt. Run longer ball studs in the front Caster hubs. The bellcrank steering is on backorder so be careful and don't put the car into the wall. Run the clicker on softest setting. And lock out the slipper as well.

Try and get a Trinity motor clamp as too the grahite one will break, and you will start chewing spur gears.

I have guy who made an aluminum motor clamp.

Ron,

He sells them for $25.

That bulkhead is very popular here. I didn't know anybody knows about Dragon outside of the MHOR track. The shock tower is the only thing I wasn't aware of. Who carries it? I allready have the A-Main carriers. I put them on my xxx4, havn't brokin anyfront end part yet. Belive me. I've hit some things very hard that should have caused a great deal of damage. Looking forward to getting down there. I've ben monaturing Mike's forum. You run 3 classes of stock buggy? let me know about that please.

The B3 front brace and the Kingpin mod at 4wdrc.com is all that is needed to make the buggy pretty durable. Do keep a set of carriers in your spare parts because they do break every now and again but not enough to justify aluminum carriers(adds weight). Upgrading to an X-5 will give you a stronger chassis and a more efficient single belt drivetrain.

The front arms are the most fragile thing. Using either the kingpin mods or a set of crashback arms solves this. The front bulkhead will not break but the holes for the arms will elongate if you do not have the B3 brace. Also, make sure the metal brace for the rear is on the car. It comes with the kit.

They seem quite hard to come by as of late... Tower, Horizon, and Stormer are all out of them. If you don't mind getting one from England... here is one on E-Bay right now... and it seems to be the only one on there too!

Best of Luck!

Why bother with a associated front brace when the XXXBK2/XXXcr front brace fits fine
