Default need help soldering a reedy neo-one motor. please help

i have a reedy neo-one motor in my race truck right now. i want to put it into my dark impact. the can fits, but the wires get in the wway because they stick out over the can. unfortinutely my soldering iron doesnt get hot enough to melt the existing solder on the tabs to remove the wires. is it safe to cut the wires right next to the tabs and resolder them onto the oposite side onto the existing solder?

If you can afford brushless then you can afford a more powerful soldering iron. I would not do what you are proposing to do. It's just a wire in a little hole. Make sure the iron is touching the hole where the wire is threaded. I 40W cheapo soldering iron should be able to handle that.

I've done exactly what your proposing to my Neo motor in my T4. You MUST use at least a 40 watt iron (I use a Weller) - this will un-solder the wires in just a few seconds. To re-solder to the opposite side of the tabs - first, tin the tabs using a small amount of flux and solder. Then re-solder the wires to the tabs, again should take just a few seconds using a the 40 watt iron. You don't want to overheat the tabs by keeping the iron on the tabs too long, which is why you need to use the 40 watt iron to get the job done quick.

If you race borrow someone else's iron at the track then. It's not that you can't do what you are proposing. It might work, and be safe but why do it?

Clipping thru 12-14 gauge wire with solder inside it (because you'd have to cut against the tab almost) would be very difficult.

Lol you didn't like our answers so you're asking Aaron Waldron? It's probably safe if you really want to do it but it's not the right thing to do to a $250 brushless ESC set.

You can get a 40w Weller iron for $20 at your LHS. Come on.

Not to flame but....

In order of importance,

1. Tools
2. Iron
3. Brushless setup

I know home depot as well as most LHS sell the weller 40 watt for 15 or 20. If youre that tight on cash borrow an iron.

Default Don't forget

You have to tin your iron.
If you melt a bit of solder onto your iron, it will transfer the heat into the old solder much faster. I have forgotten to do this from time to time, and it seems like my iron wouldn't melt wax. Then tin it and it's fine.

Or just borrow someone's. But don't for get to tin it.
Late!
