Agree with Nitroveins, buy Losi 8 Pro Kit. IMO the reason is that you dont have to buy tools again for building the car.
If your budget not allows, then try saving your money or buy 2nd hand from buddies at your local track.

The CEN Matrix is a great car. The Matrix is also affordable around $350 to $400.

Are you looking for a rolling chassis for 350.00? or RTR. The CEN car is a great buy the pro car is very reasonable.

Find out what your LHS has in stock all the time. If you are going to race it or only do bashen. A racing buggy will cost more then just a basher buggy will. The budget of only $350 will limit your buying brands. You might want to look for a used one.

Kyosho Inferno Sport US Edition, Sportwerks Turnmoil RTR, Losi 8 RTR,and CEN Matrix RTR. Check your local hobby shop for the price and parts availability.

I was in the same boat as you alittle while ago. There are alot of nice choices for RTRs today so thats a nice thing to have.

I would say that if you want something alittle different that you can still get parts for (ie- carried by Horizon so your LHS can order them) the CEN Matrix is a pretty nice vehicle. This is not to take away from the other ones out there, as they are probably good but the things I liked about the CEN when studying up on it were:

1. Durability. The parts are just extremely beefy
2. Race worthy. CEN has a team that is competing with the vehicle and doing well. Other RTRs may not have this.
3. Parts compatibility with other name brands. I have heard that parts off of the Kyosho vehicles will work on the CEN (diffs for one if you like that style they use).
4. Extremely great customer service.
5. Price

I got my CEN Matrix RTR for $300 new from CEN direct as there is not a hobby shop around here. You can usually find the vehicles really cheap new up on ebay if you want to go that route. They also give you great electronics out of the box. 144oz servos, Airtronics MX3 radio, etc.

If for some reason later on you find that you rather do something else, its not like you have alot invested either and it is race worthy.

Last night I ran a matrix pro. This car is so easy to drive fast its not even funny, I bought it. Way faster for me(beginer) than my Losi8 rtr. The Losi might be faste rin the hands of an expert but this beginer is way faster in the matrix.

on the Losi 8ight RTR, how durable are the shock towers? The pictures I have seen just make them look thin and I am curious about that.

Glad you liked the matrix pro.

The shock towers are fine, actaully the car is tough as nails except for the problem with the throttle servo. If you need more info look at the last 7-8 pages of the LOsi8 build thread.
