Sport Pack Selection Help Needed
Hey all,
I am looking to pick up some sport packs for our spec racing class. Rules are 1800mah and below Sport packs (ie- non matched ). Since this is a fun class, this keeps the price down.
I would love to find some new RC1700 loose cells but having trouble finding them within reason compared to assembled packs.
Anyway, from your experience, how do you like the packs? My LHS current says the ones from CEN (latest batch ) put out great voltage and he has them for 17.99. Any opinions on the following:
1. Duratrax Packs ( Shark, Pirahna, etc )
2. Tower Hobbies
3. Trinity
4. Racers Edge
5. Cen
6. Epic ( 1500s for 9 bucks )
Also, how much of a difference will I notice between 1500 and 1800 packs? Guys at my track are making run time with the 1500s, I just want to know if I will see a performance difference.
We run Street Spec motors if that helps. This is for truck racing with my new T4 and I will be running it indoors on carpet

HeY!!!
Cain the duratrax, trinity, or the cen packs will probably be the best for that class and the difference from the packs of 1500 and1800 is that the 1800 will have alittle more punch or power to them and have longer run time incase if you wanna take a few warm up lps you won't really take much away from the pack for race time.

Bascily look for the packs that are made with Sanyo or GP cells. Many of the sport packs are built with off brand unknown cells and perform accordingly.
I think the Trinity Street Spec packs would fit with in you rules and there are a group of guys running ledgends around me that switched to those with the demise of Bolink and they love them. Can't remeber, they might be 1900's though.

For rules we can run up to 1800s, so most guys are running those, though a few still run good sets of 1500s with not much problem making run time. I just want to make sure that I get quality cells, since I am budget racing now, every dollar counts.
I managed to pick up some RC1700 cells new for $9 per 6 cell pack.

Sport Pack Help
Pro-Match makes a GP1600 Spec Pack for $15.99 item# GP1600ST
it's a good pack built especially for Spec class. Can't beat the price for the battery

I actually got some questions answered by the promatch guys about those cells, didn't seem very good. They stated they would run them once a day, and they are not cycled at the 30amps to weed out the weak cells as they probably couldn't take it. I figured I would go with the RC1700s since I know they are strong and have great punch and runtime, I am just suprised that sanyo and trinity didn't just make them the spec class cell since we are already up to 3300s

Glad Jeff was able to help you pick out a cell that will work for what you need.
