Choosing a offroad nitro racer?

Hi guys, 2 weeks ago i got into the sport and loving it, addicted you could say, i bought a xt2 terminator http://www.redrockethobbies.com/XTM_.../gbl145625.htm
Was just something entry level for a noob like me to play around with. Over the weekend i was watching rc races on youtube and ive really got the racing bug now, there is a club in my area and im thinking of joining. I was talking to the hobby shop bloke and he recommends a Losi xxx-nt sport http://www.teamlosi.com/Products/Def...rodID=LOSA0887 for something that is race ready straight out of the box and not too expensive, i found one of these online for $470 AUD which im sure is a very good price for it, hell its cheaper than what i paid for the xt2.

What do you guys think, is the losi a good place to start for racing, or should i look at something else?

most likely, if your local hobby shop guy is recommending the losi, then he carries parts on the wall for it as well as other brands too. local parts support and avaiablity for any model/brand is a key factor in choosing your ride. also, what do most of the local guys run? the local fast guys should be able to give you set-up help as well.

that said, the losi xxx-nt rtr is a most excellent choice for a beginner to start out with. The truck is more than capable of hitting the track and winning. The radio that comes with it is top notch. there are tons of parts available for it as well as a large variety of aftermarket parts available as well. you can even upgrade it to near drake edition specs if you wanted to. you'll be happy starting out with it.

if you intend to race it, just make sure that there is a class for it at your local track so you won't be the only one running a 2wd gas truck.

one more thing......i know buying online is great (i do myself), but give your local hobby shop guy an opportunity to match that online price for you. if no one buys from your local hobby shop, he won't be able to stay in business for very long.

good luck, and have fun. :D

Thx heaps for your insight, most classes that race around here are buggys and trucks, i was looking into a revo 3.3 but was told noone races them around here, which is good in away because the losi is alot less expensive. The hobby shop want $600AUD for the losi, i would like to buy off them but the price difference is massive, i do know though that they dont take too kindly to fixing and helping ppl that have purchased online so ill try to get them to come close to the price before purchasing, the guy that owns the shop is a very nice guy, the guy he has working for him is quite arrogant. nway i just blown my first servo on the xt2, i got some cleaning and repairs to do, thx heaps dirtracer1.

yah the xxx-nt rtr would be your best ticket into the 1/10 scale gas truck. i've just recently just boght a xxx-ntad2 and it's still in the building mode.

but before you buy just make sure the truck class motor size is the same in the kit. some tracks say a .12 motor only and some say up to .15. just make srue the motor fits the classes motor size.

good luck racin'!

that is a valid point, however, i think that most tracks want your business and arn't going to turn you away. plus, most tracks also recognize that most rtr .15's don't have an advantage over a good .12 anyway.
