Cool, looks like one more Japanese manufacturer is going for that world title. The buggy looks like its got a Pro 4 drive train in it, but thats about all I can see. Mabye they this will be a cheaper option than Tamiya, Yokomo, or Jconcepts, but I doubt it unless they mold the chassis.

Default hot bodies electric offroad

hey all:i was wondering what hotbodies was working on for 1/10th electric off road and now we know.is their new 4wd buggy based on either the pro 4 or cyclone?i think the reason why we're seeing more companies offer a 4wd electric buggy than a 2wd electric buggy is because there are so many 4wd electric sedans on the market that companies can just take that design and modify it a little for offroad use with out having to come up with something compleatly new like in 2wd.just my thoughts

its not uncommon for a company to use another companys body in the prototype stage, heck the tamiya used bj4 suspenion at first,

Take a closer look at the suspension on this buggy. Now, imagine if the the front bulkhead and caster blocks were blue.

At least they moved the front tower back a smidge so it wasn't "Exactly" the same! LOL

I guess if you want to make a competitive car the best one to base one off of is the BJ4WE!

Smart move!

Shouldn't be long before we start seeing more 4wd cars at the local races!

There must be 10+ brands making 4wd cars for "Electric" racing now!(ran out of fingers)

Jim, youre so right on that.

I think its really interesting to note the other "major" companies "borrowing" parts/concepts from the BJ4

I'm just happy to see this class have a resurection!

As far as Hot Bodies copying other companies, I don't see a big problem with it. Not to knock JConcpets but they weren't the first ones to run a shaft drive AE part inspired 4wd buggy. I believe those were the Durango guys...

The new WE car is more of their own car then the first version. Besides starting with a world championship chassis/platform is a good place to start and look for some improvements....

I don't think people are knocking it because it's a similar design. I think people are knocking it because HB is actually using JConcepts parts (bulkhead, a-arms, caster blocks, driveshafts, etc.). And they're not just using a few parts. They are using the entire suspension assembly, just with different shocks. Tamiya is doing the same thing with their prototype, except it's belt drive.

Both are just prototype cars. I'm sure Tamiya and HB will make all of their own parts if they decide to produce the cars.

I actually think it's a compliment. The fact that these prototype cars are basically modified BJ4's means they think the BJ4 is the best car available.

Shaft drives were also not developed initially by A/E. I was racing a shaft drive 4wd in 1985 called the Boomerang. So it's more about a car that uses ACTUAL parts from another brand that is a little odd, not the basic layout.

Durango actually used Schumacher suspension on their car and it wasn't and still isn't for sale. After the BJ4 began doing well, the Durango team redesigned the car to use a B4 suspension like the BJ4 at the time.

It is all fine to do, some things seem odd, most are compliments, a way of saying, "man that car works, let's base ours off of that and save a TON of money in development".

Capitalism at work!

As long as the 4wd class continues to grow, it is all good, after all it's the Formula 1 of off road racing!

I agree with you Jim. What I'm saying is that it SHOULD be taken as a compliment. Taking the exsisting championship car and using it as a base point is done it almost all forms of racing. Don't you all realize that Losi surely had a B4 as soon as they came out, scrutinized it and took notes. This is what makes racing so much fun....

There's still a lot of engineering between the bulkheads...
