Default Gearing the 5.5 Brushless

I recently got the novak 5.5 and I'm going to run it in a xxxt and a xxx4 on an outside, offroad dirt track. The track is pretty good sized but not real big. I was wondering where I should start with the pinion gear.
Thanks for any advice. Aaron

Hard to say...to start, gear it like a 9 or 10 turn, and go a little conservative.

dunno if it will help, but I'm running 14 -84 in my B4.

crazy fast, long runtime, motor temp never exceeds 140. Esc tops out at 150.

Thanks guys, wright now I have it in my xxx-4, I think I'm going to try a 17 on it and see what happens. If they are geared right arent you suppose to be able to run these for a long time? Any one know if you could make a 10 or 20 min main. I might be running it with some 1/8 scale buggies?
Is 150 about a good or normal temp?

i'm getting 13 minutes off of 3400's, 18-20 off 3800's, and 23 minutes on 4200's.

My motor temp never exceeds 140.

150 should be fine, you can even push it a little higher, but i don't think you'll need to.

Well I ran it yesterday in my xxx4 and wow was that fun. I put a 17 pinion on it and it ran about 120 during the 5 min heats and after a 20 min main it was at 160 and the speedo was about 140.

In my MF2 I have the 5.5 geared at 15/84 and it is so fast that I have the EPA set to just over half throttle. The longest I ran was 12 min on a 3800 pack, it showed no signs of dumping at all just ran the heat and practiced between heats. Also, motor and esc both came off at 110.

The GTB and 5.5 both have thermal protection, so you don't need to worry about high temps too much. Lower is better, but you don't have to worry about melting anything.

If your temps get too high for your comfort get the new Novak 3.5 rotor. I have seen 10 to 20 degree drops in temp, with just the rotor alone. Change your gearing for the new rotor and you should cool off some more!
