Need some help on gearing for a B4 buggy

I just got a B4 buggy. I am running a Cobalt 9x2. I am used to running my T4, but the gearing seems totally different. The buggy has a 84 with a 16 pinion. Just seems slower than my T4 and I am running a 87 with a 14. Track has 100 foot straights with some tight sorners. Just was wondering if i need to go with a smaller spur and bigger pinion? Some one give me a idea if you can.

Suggest a bigger pinion gear, like a 19T...

put the 81 tooth spur gear back on it.

I would try a 14 tooth pinion on you b4 too. With a 16 tooth you are geared much higher than your T4. This is of course if you are using the same motor as the T4.

Just gear it up until everything over heats really bad, and then start backing it off.

Your car probably seems slow because it's sitting there motionless while the wheels are spinning! Seriously, a 9x2 is WAY too much rip for a 2wd buggy (unless you've converted it to a touring car & are running on carpet!)

Try a 13x2 or 13x3 if you can get your hands on one. Car will be smoother & easier to drive, still while having more than enough RIP off the corner & jumps.
You will see it in your laptimes too!

Whatever you do..............HAVE FUN when you pull the trigger!

Sounds like he is one of these types that thinks ballistic speed will win him the race. Just wait till one of the really good drivers spanks him using a stock motor.

I don't think being ballistic speed will win me a race, I just was having fun on my own track. As far as being fast and having a good driver with a stock motor beat me with my t4 brushless 5.5, not going to happen!

I found that with my B4 running the 81 spur I was geared 9 to 11 teeth over the number of turns. Dependant upon the track and type of motor.
