Prefilter Oil or No Oil?

What is best oil the prefilter or not? I'm talking off-road 1/8 scale.

your best bet is to oil it. Even by oiling it, you are not going to lose any performance at all. In the long run it will help keep dirt out of your engine and prolong the life of the filter itself. With the pre filters, don't be afraid to wash them and re use them, since they are thin, all of the dirt makes it way out, use dish soap with lots of degreaser.

Pretty much what I thought. Any problem cleaning and reusing the inner filter?

4 filters cost 9 bucks and will probably last you an entire season, if you want to risk dirt in your $300 motor to try and save 10-20 bucks a year, that's your call.

Not trying to be an a hole, but with a thicker filter, trying to clean it will move the dirt closer to the hole, and into your engine.

I got 6 gallons out of an engine and I cleaned and re-oiled my inner filters. great thing about the way soap works, it traps dirt and grime and grit inside of the soap compound. So, you can waste your 9 bucks on throwing filters away, or save 9 bucks for parts and re-oil them, your call.

Just curious.

many of us re-use air filters and have had plenty of luck. IMHO in no way would it put your motor at greater risk IF you can clean them properly. :o

I found that if I oil my pre filter, my normall filter never gets dirty...

Also remember, after you oil it up good, use a towel, or papertowel and squish all the excess oil out of the filter. Working at a hobbyshop, we have found that if there is too much, it will take some power away because the lube (associated stuff anyways) is so thick that it acctually blocks some of the cells on the foam. Just a little tip.

Oil the prefilter good and you only have to clean the inside filter maybe once a month. Definately oil it!
