About Charging and Discharging rates ...
Hi guys,
Just bought an ICE Charger from Duratrax and i need some knowledge about charging and discharging rates, the batteries i usually use are :
- Transmitter = 8 x 2.500mah Sony Batts (NiMh)
- Receivers = 1 x 1.200mah and 1 x 1.400 mah batts (NiMh)
- Starter Box = 2 x 3.000mah and 2 x 3.300 batts (NiMh)
- Glow Plug Heater = 1 x 5.000mah (NiCad)
I would like to know about normal charging rates and "fast-on-track" ones ...

Your receiver packs, transmitter pack, and glow ignitor can be charged at 1 amp. The starter box batteries will be fine with a 5 amp charge.
For the receiver packs, transmitter pack, and glow ignitor pack, you don't need alot of power out of them. Charge them through the week lower than 1 amp. Maybe 0.5 amp or lower even. I discharge my receiver packs once a month at about an amp and then charge them at 0.1amp. When I'm at the track I charge at 0.5.
If it's something you need alot of power from, charge it at a higher rate (no more than 1.5 amps for smaller batteries). If you need something to last, charge it at a lower amp rate.

The 6 cell stick packs for your starter box can be charged at whatver you can throw at it. For ease's sake, 3000mah will take about 1hr @ 3A, the 3300mah will take about 1hr @ 3.3A.
Seeing as you're not relying on any of these batts to propel your vehicle, no need to be fussy about discharging/equalisation techniques.
Every now and then (once per month... when the weather's bad) juscharge them to 0.9v per cell...
So... transmitter pack - 7.2v... starter box packs - 5.4v.. receiver pack (5cell) 4.5v.
The glow igniter is a nicd - so best to discharge this to 0.9v before every charge.
