Default New to elec. need help.

I just got a T4, and the only charger i have is a superbrain 959. I dont have a way to discharge, except for running the batt. in the truck.

Question is, what is a good charger and discharger/equal. I was looking at the duratrax ICE, and the Novak tray with the led and voltage cutoff (forgot the name) is this ok?

IB 3800's and a unlabled stock motor

Thanks, Derrick

You should go to radioshack and buy one or two of there gp3300 stick packs. One battery is not enough for a raceday if you want to run it, discharge it, let it cool, then charge it again. The battery will probably take a half hour or more to charge, and if you let it cool first you'll probably not have time for your next run. Plus that's asking alot of your one battery to run a whole raceday with some practice. Radioshack sells the stick packs for like 25 or 26 bux I believe.

i wouldnt buy those gp3300s from radioshack. they arent matched or anything..they are just a bunch of "non-wanted" cells that the factory just slapped together. i suggest you go to horizon, they have a gp3900 by orion in a stick pack forum, and those should be good. or save up and get some decent new or used matched packs. btw, change ur plugs to deans.

I was just lookin to save a new guy in racing a few bucks until he learns to keep it between the tubes.

Personally I'd still recommend the radioshack batts, keep the charger you have, and build your own discharger out of 1157 lightbulbs from the auto parts store.

Then take what you would've spent and buy some tires/wheels, spare arms, and for the T4 couple servo saver kits. They are only 5 or 6 bux.

Any as said above, go with Dean's plugs they are the best.

These aren't nicd cells. First off, the charger you currently have should be all you need for now. As far as a discharger is concerned. The integy zero/thirty is probly the way to go. Typicaly people will use a novak smart trey and the trinity dyna pulse togather. However, the zero/thirty will get the job done on it's own. You will need to do a little research on the best process for the discharging and charging cycles though. I would try to bring at least 3 packs to a 4 heat race day. For off road racing all you realy need are matched packs of nimh cells. Yes, there are the ib 4200s and ect, but all you realy need are some gp 3300s for off road.

I agree about the zero 30, I have had one since they were released and my batts are superb. I would recommend going to your local track and putting out some feelers for some good used packs. Don't just buy the first ones you come across without first getting some opinions from several other racers. You never know who wants to sell their junk to some unsuspecting victim.

Having a Super Brain 959, they SUCK for racing batts, they can only charge at 4.5 amps. I typically use my superbrain for rx packs and maybe my mini-t. There are 2 Integy chargers that discharge at up to 30 amps, adn can charge at a higher amperage then you would need. The ICE is also great, however this does need a power supply whereas the Integys do not require a ps. I currently use lightbulbs and then the zero-30 right before charging to equalize the cells. Looking to maybe get a reactor 30 for discharging. I can also discharge with my Integy Charger at any amp from .01 to 30 amps.
