Default mamba max 7700 edition, too fast for 4wd buggy of 2wd truck?

Is the 7700 version of the mamba max system too fast for 4wd buggy or 2wd truck?

Is it possible to de-rev the system so its less powerful at all? Curious if the setups are all or nothing are you can tune it some.

Yes you can turn it down some of just go with the new 6900 or the 5600 series motors. I would think for most race conditions the 6900 would still be almost overkill. The 5600 system is like a good 9 to 10 turn which is pretty plenty. The 6900 is like a 6 tuen brushed which is overkill.

If your wanting to detune it then why get it? Just like wyd said, just get one of the lower KV motors if your gonna race. If its just gonna be something your gonna rip up and down the street with get the 5700 and put a 3s lipo in it. If your not wanting to go lipo, then get the 7700.

My brother has the 7700 with 2s lipo and it will pull the wheels anytime you want it too. Its a handfull keeping it straight on the track.

Now that I think of it, you should just buy the 5700. That way it'll be more than enough on the dirt with some 6 cells batteries, but if you wanna get crazy with it you can put a 3s lipo in it. You can't really run a 3s lipo on a 7700.

4wd buggy can't have too much power

I run a 7700 in a XX4... and a 5700 in a T4.

Both are stupid fast on the track... as much power as I can imagine ever needing for racing.

As for taming the system, there are some software tweaks like punch control and motor timing, but there isn't any kind of rev limiter. CC says they may include that in a future software update though... but for now you can't truely "turn down" the system very much without limiting the EPA which is not a good idea.

I found in my B4... a good milder setup that is still very fast, is to run the 4600 motor and gear it to the moon. It takes some of the snap out of it.. and revs out pretty high. ANd the heat is not a problem at all. Oh and it still can pull the front up on a high bite track, geared 25/81. So I guess it's not exaclty "soft".

In general I would say the 6900 for 4wd, 5700, for truck, and 4600/5700 for buggy depending on how sick you want it.

I haven't run the 6900 but I bet it's really good for 4wd.

reason I ask about detuning it is two part:

1. to be able to better tune it to the track. I may want most of the power but not what the slower motor gives.

2. Tower's price on the 7700 version is significantly cheaper than the other two.

Weird.... that's a pretty good deal...

I like the 7700 in mine. I also run a 2s lipo pack in it... I haven't run anything else it it. So I guess I can't say I actually know what it's like with 4200s etc.

The way I look at it almost everyone running 4wd straps in the fastest motors they have whether brushed or BL. You could always pick up another motor or run a brushed if the track requires.

The reason I would look at the 6900 first is just that I think it will still be stupid fast and it whoudl run a little cooler. The 7700 won't overheat or anythign but it cna get hot. I do run a XX4 too so that's not helping.

My old SS5800 used to run 220* in my XX4 hee hee

Thanks for the info. I will probably still do traditional packs for now.

If you are going to do the 6900 or 7700 and run nimh batteries be sure to get some that are top of the line. Ex: IB4200s 420+ run time 1.230V+ and IR 1.3-1.4

Cheaper batteries will just not work with those 2 systems and barely work with the 5700 and 4600.

As far as detuning the motor, yes you can cut the timing back, decrease start power and punch as well as decrease your throttle curve.

Hope this helps,

What is the problem with running NIMH batteries that you are seeing?

Not enough voltage/power. The Mamba Max brusless motors draw and enormous amount of power and without batteries up tp the task the system will not perform the way it should and it will kill the batteries at a very quick rate.

Thats very interesting considering the fact that seems brushless is supposed to give more runtime? Hmm. have to think about that some as I was planning on going with some IB3600 - 3800s to start with.

Longer run times as long as your batteries are up to the task. The 6900 and 7700 are power hungry.

Seems like an oxymoron huh? I believe there is more runtime/efficiency with brushless... but relative to the power you get.

A 7700 may not have more runtime than a 12x2 for example... but it will have a lot more runtime than a brushed of similar power, like a 6x1.

Personally I think the CC guys overstress the battery thing due to some guys trying to run junk packs. Power is power... the battery doesn't know or care who made the motor.

Any pack a serious racer will be using is good enough. Guys like crash tend to not give us enough credit.

Just from my experience, I think a good SxS IB 3800 pack will do fine.

Besides, they can handle 7t singles in world class touring cars and that's more current than you will ever see in a 1/10 offroader I'd think.
