Default Have you changed the gearing on your RC 10GT?

I'm looking for more top speed from my RC 10GT. The stock flywheel gear has 15 teeth. I'm wondering if I should go with a 16 or 17 tooth gear. Any suggestions?

I've never changed mine, but the 16 or 17 will give more speed - you can also try smaller spur gears as well for more speed.

Default Gearing

I thought the following was true

Going bigger/more teeth on pinion - improves top speed (taller)
Going smaller/less teeth on pinion - improves acceleration (shorter)

Going bigger/more teeth on spur - improves acceleration (shorter)
Going smaller/less teeth on spur - improves top speed (taller)

So wouldnt going from a 15t pinion to a 16t pinion increase acceleration and decrease top speed?

Also, does anyone know roughly how many spur gear teeth = 1 tooth on a pinion gear? I guess I could do the math...

going from 15 to 16 will give you more top speed . ...sacrificing acceleration. If you have a torquey engine, you wouldn't have that problem.

I found out the 16 tooth bell is the highest I can go on the pull start engine. So I also ordered 64 tooth spur gear. I figure using one or the other, or both, should give me the mix of acceleration AND top speed I'm looking for. I realize I will lose some of the acceleration it has now, but this thing is ALL acceleration and no top speed.

axo - you wrote down the right theory on gearing - and then you totally ignored what you'd just said and got your pinion effect the wrong way round!

And in the GT a pinion tooth is about 3 to 4 on a spur - but maths is best.
