anyone have any real info on this car.

Hey! It looks like a Yokomo MR4-BX clone! I almost made a mistake of identifying it. The give-away was the location of the antenna mount. The Yokomo has it's antenna placed in front of the motor while the Tamiya is on the center support. I know this for a fact because I own a Yok. :cool:

It was just a matter of time Tamiya did a Pro-caliber off-roader..... :sneaky:

Looks to have borrowed a lot of parts off other cars. I was talking with the Tamiya international manager a little while ago, and he said that Mazeumi was a former offroad champ, and that he was very keen to drive forward a TRF offroad project.

The future of 4wd offroad looks very strong with the manufacturers getting into the act now.

Those shocks are gonna PWN. TRF has the best onroad shocks, so I bet these will rule too. Period.

i guess thats the new name!! kinda lame how they took the designs and didnt make an all new car. i know that they are very few designs but that car looks EXACTLY like a Yok but with Bj4 arms. the drivetrain is directly off the Yok with out any changes.

Well the aluminum diff housings look a bit different, and the front bumper is bigger than the Yok. Overall I'd say its a bit of a disappiontment, why isn't it based off the Dark impact? Also why didn't Tamiya actually design their own parts for it? Unless of course this is just an early prototype for testing geometry and such.

They used other manufacturers parts just the same way as Yokomo did, to eliminate one variable (the suspension) whilst they tested other components (ie: chassis and drivetrain).

Funny that no one had a problem with Yokomo doing it :weird:

I'm quite surprised they haven't tried to develop the Dark Impact concept into a top line racer - perhaps the drivetrain just isn't quite right for 9 and 10 turn motors?

Anyway, great news as far as I am concerned, looks like it should be a very competitive worlds in 4wd next year, now that we have several off-the-shelf cars going for honours.

If Tamiya can make it a hat-trick in touring this year (and with Rheinard on the team you wouldn't bet against it), they could hold two worlds at the same time. That would kick sand in the face of all the doubters - when it comes to development resources Tamiya are hard to beat.

Just thought i would mention it the car is called the TRF501X ;) no body had mentioned it. Here is a bigger picture....... :cool: :cool: :cool:

Nice! it looks sooo similar to the BX I can see how people would make the mistake. I am a BX owner and at first glance I thought it was a BX too! any info on the car or is it just prototype right now. I'll ask some of my Japanese friends here about it too.
