HPI Blitz 2WD electronics help
Hello everyone, thanks for checking out this thread.
I am somewhat experienced in SCT racing but took a break from it for around 4 years and now I have the time to come back into the hobby. As a fresh restart I picked up a blitz chassis (I know its a little old but it seems like a fun car) and wanted to know what I should purchase for electronics. I have a servo and transmitter already, Flysky gt5 and a protek 100ss but im unsure what do for motor and esc. Im not entirely sure what classes they have at my local rc track but Ive heard that they have a wide range for 2WD Scts. I just need something reasonably fast and durable as I also plan on driving it for fun on an outdoors track so I guess something that's a healthy mix of bashing and racing. Ive been doing some research and I like the Hobbywing Max10 combo but Im unsure what KV ratings to choose from as this is a rear mounted motor and I read somewhere that a 3660 size would be too big and heavy (Max10 SCT combo has a bigger motor size). What really does confuse me however is that the HPI Blitz FLUX comes with a 4000KV motor yet other forums say 3000-3500 KV is ideal. My information of course can absolutely be wrong I just want to know what other people recommend before I make a purchase. thanks for your help |
I am pretty sure that 2wd SCT is limited to a 13.5 turn motor for racing. So, if you plan to race at all, I would be looking at a sensored 13.5, not a sensorless 3300kv, as some tracks may not allow that.
For a solid performing motor, I would look at the Hobbywing G4 13.5 motor paired with one of the Hobbywing XR10 escs. The Justock G3 for $59 is fine to start with, and the new ones have reverse polarity protection (although you need the upgraded capacitor pack if you want it to be truly protected). If you want to move up to something that will handle anything you throw at it, go with the XR10 Pro G2s (not the legacy edition, because it DOES NOT have reverse polarity protection). The G2s has tons of tuning options for racing but at $209 may be more then you want to spend right now. |
Thanks for your help! Do you have any recommendations for setups that are also waterproof and ever so slightly bash worthy? Im not looking to win any podiums just have a good time with some friends I race with.

I just replaced my esc with a Quicrun 10BL60 $45-50. I am quite pleased with it. We run 17.5 or 13.5 on a small backyard track. A couple guys are running the 1st gen Castle Sidewinder SCT with a 3800. 1 guy runs a 8.5 but has it turned down.
CorrosionX for waterproofing. I spray it in a small pickle jar to dip electronics in. Use a rag to cover the top of the jar to prevent over spray in the air and your face. Screw the lid lightly on the wires to drip. Clean the area with alcohol before applying the mounting tape. All my crawler electronics are done this way. Bashing a new or used Traxxas VXL system. |
Cool! whats your thoughts on the hobbywing max 10 combo? im guessing these guys all just run 2s then right since I dont know if people race with 3s much. I will def give that waterproofing method a try though! Also, are these setups sensored or sensorless?

Check the rules for your local club to see what the locals are running.
If they are running a 13.5T Stock class then ask if they need to be ROAR certified or not. The fastest 13.5T you can get is the Trinity Slot Machine, it was recently banned by ROAR because they were to found to be out of spec and were too fast. If the club doesn't use ROAR and just calls for 13.5 then that's the motor to get. If you're not going to be club racing and will just be bashing around doing speed runs then I would get any 3650-4000KV motor where the waterproof HobbyWing combo is a solid choice for bashers. |
2s on the track.
2s or 3s for bashing. HW is an excellent combo. |
