many people will have different thoughts on this, but they will all have some truth to them.

One that I have heard quite a bit is this: the xx-4 was designed as an off road car first and foremost. The xxx-4 was derived from an on road platform (xxx-s).

And at the time when the xxx-4 was being designed, many tracks around the US were blue groove, smooth and high bite, as many are still today.

The xx-4 handles better, but the xxx-4 has a more effecicient drive train. The motor and battery technology of today has surpassed that necesary to make the effeciency in the xxx-4 beneficial. I would go with the xx-4. However, the xx-4 requires lots of maintanance. Those belts require a whole lot of work and cleaning. If there is parts support for a shaft drive 4wd buggy at your lhs then I would consider looking into one instead of the xx-4.
