Default Which ESC/motor combo?

Should I do this ESC/motor with the 5400kv or the 4000kv?:
https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/coll...nt=27757683857

I will be using a 2s lipo. Will the ESC burn up on the 5400kv?

It is going to be impossible to answer your question as you give no info on the vehicle you have that needs this motor/esc.

It makes no sense for a manufacturer to pair an esc with a motor that would burn out the esc. Your concern of such is very puzzling to me.

Sorry Its a Yokomo YZ-2 Cal3. What pinion should I run with the 5400kv motor? And whats the difference between this esc:

https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/prod...nt=26983763784

And this esc if I use the 5400kv motor as well:

The motor and esc combo from your first post would work in your buggy, but I would say a different motor/esc combo would work better. The problem is those motors are 4-pole and sensorless, both of those things make for a throttle response that would make a 2wd buggy very difficult to drive and gearing would be difficult to get right without lots of trial and error. You want a sensored 2-pole system. I like Tekin products as they are an American company. I can call their headquarters in Idaho and speak with the guy who works on my esc's if I have a problem. Here is a good deal on a Tekin esc that has been rebuilt. That paired with any sensored 13.5t motor would be a great combo for hassle free operation. For gearing you start with the recommend gearing from the kit manual and the esc in blinky mode (no timing). Start with the motor timing a little bit above the middle of the timing range. If you want to add esc timing (to make more power if no esc timing isn't enough power for you), you lower the motor timing some, and gear down a tooth for every 15° of esc timing.

The difference between the two esc's is that the first one is 2s-3s and the second one is 2s-4s with more current capacity as it is for heavier short course trucks. The second one probably wouldn't fit in a 2wd buggy as the space for electronics is very limited. Neither esc is sensored, which is something I don't like for a 2wd buggy esc.

I dont understand anything about what you said about timing. I dont want a refurb esc I want brand new. Since its 2wd that hobbywing esc/motor will have too much torque or what?

The only use I see for 4-pole motors is in 4WD Short Course. Also sensorless is not really what I'd recommend in any 2WD vehicle, especially on a racetrack. Bashing, maybe - but a Yokomo caL3 is not really a bashing vehicle either...

This combo would be good if you want new.

Here is a good three part write up about motor and esc timing. Read through it if you want a to learn all about timing.

Yes, a 4-pole motor motor makes too much torque for a 2wd buggy.

What about this with the 3300kv motor?
https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/coll...nt=27757683857

Also, what tooth pinion do I want for a cooler motor. I dont want extra speed more worried about a cool motor.

17.5t motors are around 3000kv, 13.5t motors are around 3600kv. The timing setting on the motor and timing added by the esc let you adjust the kv. That Tekin esc in that last link can add up to 55° of timing, which would put a 17.5 right around 3600kv. There are 7 timing profiles pre-loaded into the esc giving a single adjustment to tune your power level.

That is the same sensorless 4-pole combo you posted previously.

If you go with a 4-pole sensorless system you will be on your own to figure out gearing. The YZ2 was designed to run 2-pole sensored motors, so the gearing recommendation in the manual and any gearing info from setup sheets is based off 2-pole sensored motors. If you are under geared the motor will be hot and slow. In that case a larger pinion would make the motor run cooler. If you are over geared the motor will be hot and fast. In that case you need a smaller pinion to make the motor run cooler.

Ultimately, you won't know if your gearing is right until you drive the car.

If you’re on a budget go with this combo. It’s much better suited for a 2wd buggy and is sensored.

Use the 120 esc, 17.5 motor for stock or whatever for mod. It’s a good cheap system

All the sensored stuff is too complicated for me! I don't think I could figure it out.
