Questions?? Am I nuts or are all 25T servo splines not the same?

I have pretty much always used Hitec servos but I got a deal on here on a few Protek servos. I figure hey, I don't need horns and they have good reviews so why not. Well, the Tekno clamping horn I had on the Hitec would NOT fit the Protek. I then tried another non clamping horn that fits the hitec and yup...didn't fit the Protek. The Protek's output is 25T but it is beefier. I wasn't expecting that. I opened up a new Tekno 25T clamping horn and it did go on but was/is VERY tight. Should I only use Protek horns with Protek servos?

I spread the tekno clamping horn a touch before installing when necessary.

I then tighten clamp screw, then tighten main screw.

Do you have any tools to measure diameter of the output splines?

Hitec used to have 24T in the past. Futaba (and most others now) have 25T. Maybe check that out?

Some of them are pretty darn tight. My 22X-4 horn was a pain to mount on my MKS servo, I use a little black grease sometimes so they slide on smoothly.

I've ran the following 25T spline servos with the TEKNO horns, all of them fit like a glove without having to do any "spreading" of the horn:

Hitec was 24T in the past and they moved to 25T only 3-4 years ago with their new line up. If you have one of their older servo's, it could be a 24T spline.

Thanks all. I think They are 25T Hitec. The Hitec is .224” diameter and the Protek is .235”. Not much of a difference but it sure is tighter.
Hitec is a HS7954SH & a HS7940TH
Protek is a 170SBL

As far as I could find, those two Hitec servos seem to be 24T indeed.

Those Hitecs have a 24T spline. I know because I have a few of them. These servo's were the last generation to have the 24T spline. They are still great servo's, but you need 24T horns.
I also have a few 9370's and those were the first gen to have the 25T spline.

Well...taught this old dog something new today. My genius self has been using 25T Tekno horns on these two bashers. Duh me. Thanks people.

hitecs use both 24t and 25t servos. the majority are 24t , but the 9xxx line are 25t. if its not a 9xxx line its probably 24t.

This this is a link to an article that goes into great detail about different types of splines. To measure an involute spline precision pins are placed between the teeth 180° apart when possible and the measurement is taken across the pins themselves. I've never looked at a servo spline under magnification but will the next chance I get. I'm thinking what we have on servos is called a serration type spline. Then I think the outside diameter of the shaft would become the critical dimension

The answer is "Yes," you are nuts and "Yes," the splines can be the same, but sizes can be different. 2mm shaft with 25 splines or a 2.5mm shaft with 25 splines.
