Default Motor Dynos

I'm becoming somewhat obsessed with motor tuning. I think I do that more than I wrench on my car. It might be a sickness, I'm not sure.

Either way, I want a dyno. I understand that good dyno readings don't always mean good track performance, but as tuning has become somewhat of a "sub-hobby" of mine in R/C, I want to be able to quantify the results of my rebuilding efforts.

I maintain 4 - 6 stock motors that are used for practicing and racing. Motor spray demolishes the dyno sticker so after each rebuild, it's difficult to determine which motors are my "go-to" motors and which ones are my beaters; especially since one motor can be a beater one week and, after a rebuild, be a star the next week.

So, I'd like a dyno that can:

- Measure RPM
- Measure Torque
- Measure Power Output
- Print a Dyno Sticker

I'm aware of the Competition Electronics and Robotronics dynos, but I can't find a manufacturer's link to either. If anyone can provide that or tell me of other viable options, I'd appreciate it.

There is a fantom dyno that does those things. I have one and like it but i have heard the competition electronics one is the best. They go for sale on here and on ebay i believe new they are about $800, but you could just get a used one and have it re-caliberated.

The little yellow stickers that come on "Pro" motors are from a Fantom Facts Dyno. Yep, I'm told that is what Trinity uses. I do see them for sale here once in a while usually in the $300 - $600 or so used, sometimes including a laptop.

When you get one, you have to let your buddies use it too.

when looking for a dyno, if you can stay away from the flywheel dynos and try to find a dyno that uses a load. my preferance is as follows CE turbo dyno(hard to find they dont make them anymore, but if you can get your hands on one, get it) second robitronic, then cs dyno then fantom. i have the first 3 and the use the turbo more. check out www.rccar.com big jim motor forum. more info on tuning than you will ever need.
