Traction additives
 

I am only knew to this sport and went to the Cactus classic where people were pulling wheelstands... I was wondering what people use it anything to put on their tyres to gain a little more traction????

Just cleaning them between heats with Simple Green and water is usually more than adequate. But if you need to soften them a little, go to your local hardware store and pick up some turpentine and a spray bottle. After cleaning them with the SG and water, spray them with a light coat of the turpentine and let them sit. Before your heat, wipe off any left over residue and throw em back on the car and you're good to go. Then when you're done running for the day, spray them with a light coat of the turp. again and put them in a ziplock bag until the next raceday.

Go to the tire sofening thread and theirs a proccess that used fire!WOrks great lol.After I got the balls to light my tires ablaze I found it wasnt to hard.Start with the rear and it it on a screw driver or somethig anf spin it real fast.Spray it with AXE or motor spray.Now stop it real quik, light it and give it a LIGHT spin.Too fast and it wont burn evenly.Once the the flame goes out and the big puff of smoke goes give it one last light spin and start putting the tupitine on.Try your best to get the whole tire before it cools.

And yes they get VERY sticky when done right.

Some indoor tracks might take issue with the use of open flame and combustibles in the pits :lol: . If you are using Losi Pink, Proline R3 or Panther "C" compound rubber you can make them sticky with WD40. Just spray or wipe a light coating on and let it absorb. I race at a track where we use slicks and the key to traction is getting dirt to stick to the rubber. Too much WD40 can be counter productive as the excess oil (if it is not allowed to sink in long enough) will repel the moisture in the dirt, I have found Simple Green to cause this too. The best bet is to get some Trinity Buggy Grip or Zip Free and go that route. Makes them nice and sticky with no fireworks.
