joaocvduarte: That track design looks like it will be great fun to drive.
LowClassCC: You've got one of the biggest backyard track projects that I've seen.

I'm excited to see how both of your projects come along.

Lots of running around today. Had to go get the permit for the electric install. Also had to take the permit to the electric company and sign some paperwork, and picked up the 2" schedule 80 pvc conduit, connector, and straps. It may not seem like much but there was a lot of back and forth between the county planning commission and the electric company. Around 60 miles put on the car today.

Ordered the wifi setup I will use for the track. Also ordered the laptop that I will be using for the lap counting software and live-streaming of the races. Going to pay for the electric service installation in the morning.

Electric is paid for. Just need to install the meter base and have it inspected so I can get it hooked up.

Cut down a dead Ash tree. It went all wrong but nobody was hurt. Ash bore beetles killed it. At least it's down now and no longer a hazard. This was the only tree to be removed that I had serious concerns over. The rest should go easy.

Default Recovery in Progress

Grass track is coming around after the mid-February cold snap and corn snow. Early Feb lay-down of fertilizer soaked in well and is beginning to show signs of having a positive effect. Track surface is much greener in contrast to the infield and outfield portions of the track. And turn three, foreground left, has more definition than it looks in the photo. It's a high traffic area off and on the driver stand so is a bit beaten down right now. It too will come around with warming weather and some rain - already in the forecast.

Ran off Round 1 of Serie 5 today of the 2021 season. Scheduled Round 2 for tomorrow in hopes of beating the rain. Traction today is beginning to go away with more of a grass surface. Will probably get its first close cut after a four day rest prior to rounds 3 and 4 later this month. Cheers. 'AC'

Grass Track March 3, 2021. Beginning to green up and loosen up.

Ok time for an update. I finished wiring everything with the electric meter base that I had left to do. They will hopefully be here tomorrow to do the inspection.

The C. Crane long range wifi system I ordered for the track has arrived. Now I just need to build the building and install it.

I just ordered the lumber for the floors of all the structures I will be building for the track. This will build the floors for the following. Two 8'x8' platforms/decks for guest pit areas. Three 8'x12' buildings, one for storage and the other for my pit/work room, the third is a storage shed they will be unrelated to r/c. One 4'x24' driver stand. Two picnic tables. This lumber order does NOT include the lumber still needed for the walls, roofs, benches, steps, ect. It also does not include the concrete we will be needing or the screws and other hardware. I price shopped around to get the best deal I could. Here is a list of what we are getting.

48qty 4"x4"x8' pressure treated
20qty 2"x6"x12' pressure treated
200qty 2"x6"x8' pressure treated

It's not everything I need but it is a start that will keep me busy for a while. Funds are limited and seeing this is just my own personal backyard track and not a business venture it may take a while to get everything finished. I always go overboard when doing anything but if it helps bring family and friends closer together it is well worth every cent. So if any of y'alls wives complain that you spend too much on the hobby just show her how much I have invested.

We've had a few nice days so I redesigned my track. I'm going back to a rally style track because I tend to like driving them better. This new track is really fun to drive.

Hi, me and my buddy made this track last summer on a grass field.First we just cut the grass really short, but it was just way to rough and bumpy. Then we spend a day spreading dirt all over the track to make it more even, that improved a lot. But then 2 weeks later the track started to turn into a grass field again, so we decided to skip the track. It never became really good and was too time consuming. Here is a video that shows us using the track both before and after the dirt was added:

Instead of the grass-track mentioned above we are doing something completely different. We find a nice flat place with gravel, then create a temporary track using rope, spikes and cones, and then race it. Here is how that looks, this is from the very first time we did it, we have done it several times since and now it only takes us 10 minutes to setup a track. We have also improved that concept a lot with better nails, rope and cones, I will make a better video about that next time we set it up, but you can see the concept in this video:

Were in the process of building our second track in a much larger area which is a bit over 5000sqft. I got a couple damaged trees I'm going to get out tomorrow, then we should finish the layout. I'll get some pictures soon as it's roughed in.

Today went well. Removed 20 trees and the electric passed inspection! Now I just have to wait on the electric company to come and run the underground main line to my meter box and install the meter. Still have some more trees that I need to remove while I wait for the electric to get done.

I added up the current amount spent so far. It's pretty bad.

New rallye track for LC Racing really looks great, Backyard. Thanks for posting up the vid.

Nice high berms to contain those wild and crazy rallye cars. Watching the vid a couple of times, when the car changed running direction about halfway through, it seemed to take that corner between the sweeper and the long straight better. Great view of the entire track from the driver stand too. How high is your stand? Have you started running any timed events yet? Or do you to that?

Again, great use of space available to make a challenging track. Cheers. 'AC'

Really like the grass track action in the first vid you posted up, claus. But then, I'm partial to grass tracks.

The portable gravel track and rope marking is great for an ad hoc run. When my grass track first began, I used rope and garden hose for course markers as well. Quick to lay down and pick up and easy to transport and store.

Your public profile lists dk as a country code. Would that be Denmark? Look forward to seeing more of your adventures in locating and placing a portable track. Cheers. 'AC'
