Yes. Something EXACTLY just like that! Surprised we don't see more tracks like this. Maybe they're out there and I just don't know about them. To me uphill jumps and especially downhill jumps are the greatest obstacles in all of off-road. Hillside tracks are a little tough on the turn Marshalls though

Besides the nice layout, what is amazing with such old videos is how slow are the cars !
Damn, compare it to a 1/8 race from nowadays (it's the same if you compare two vids of electric 1/10...), the guys are on a completely different planet regarding speed of the cars AND behaviour (especially shocks quality) !

Where will we be in 2045 ???

Exactly, those cars looked pretty much out of control! Considering the track was a bit bumpy but they were all over the place! It took a lot more driver to control a car back then than today, that's for sure!

Ha and LoL, Milkdudd. Have to train them as 'goats', like in motorcycle hill climbing. Give them a RC 'Shepherds' Hook' on a long pole to recover the cars instead of snagging the wheel of a downsliding motorcycle. Even snagged a down sliding rider under the armpit a couple of times. No worries for that in RC, though. HeHe.

+more on using a hill side on a course. Think a previous world's in South America some years ago used one too. Guess at some point there is a cross-over where a back yard race track becomes a back yard rallye track. But then, a little of both brings with it challenges and variety. Who is it on this thread running his 1/8 into a back yard valley and back out again? He's done some vids too. He could give insights and tricks on adding that to a track.

It's been a light winter but I think the track is down for a while. Makes me want to put tracks on one of my cars.

Track here is suffering through cool, mist, fog, rain and generally un-raceable weather. Temperatures continue mild, so no freeze-thaw cycles on the grass. Looking like weather here might lift and the track dry enough to get in a test and full practice for record before months' end and February qualifying begins.

Grass is dormant so have to be careful about how many laps the trucks put down. Grass does not recover during winter like it does the three other seasons. On balance though, having a winter racing season here in Houston is better by measure than a summer season.

The the outdoor track/hobby shop in my area sells tracked vehicles. I've never seen them run but I hear they're a blast when the track is snow covered. Heard the opposite about RC snowmobiles

Hey guys, no snow here, but other challenges at play. Racing surface is becoming a bit barren and winter weeds are taking over the infield. Roots are strong, though, and holding up to a monthly winter 4-round event plus the odd test and practice session. No tear-out that I can see beyond just the grass being dormant and thin. PL Hole Shots are working great compared to needing JC Goose Bumps during the growing season. Thinking a regular program of fertilizer application spring, summer and fall strengthened the grass for the winter season.

Its a done deal here - racing season is locked in for fall and winter at this back yard track. No more stinking hot humid sweaty summers on the driver's stand for this guy. Be sipping Mai-Tai's under the sun umbrella instead. Cheers. 'AC'

Hey guys and gals. A member of the wintered-in club now. Light dusting of snow with ice underneath. 16degF. Water supply intermittent and rolling power outages. Severe conditions for Houston. Glad the winter fertilizer got laid down last week. The thaw should soak it in good.

Have one more round of racing to complete the February Serie Four on the track. Looking like the '4-truck' may have to accept a provisional finish for its placing and score.

My backyard track build will start this year. Technically it started about 6 years years ago when I started clearing some land to build it. Currently I have the 100'x60' area mostly cleared, 800' of yellow corrugated pipe, Trackmate lap counting system, 500" of rebar to make the stakes. Currently in the works is the electric company will be sending out an engineer to give me an estimate to install a new meter to provide the power for the track.

cut and weld up 500 stakes
finish clearing the area
layout the track
build the driver stand
build my workshop
get wifi repeater
build my storage area
build some pit areas

Once I get those things finished I will get RC Scoring Pro to control the lap counting and video streaming side of things. Still a long way to go but i am hoping to be able to do some racing this summer.

Well today went well. I cut some of the rebar into 150x 12" stakes. Now just 350x more to go.

The engineer for my local electric company came out today. In short it will cost me right at $2000 to have a new 200 amp service installed for the track. I have to build the pedestal the meter will go on and get a new service permit through zoning which wont be any problem. I am extremely happy because I was afraid it was going to cost a good deal more.

Most of the snow we had has now melted so the property is now soupy. I plan to work more on the stakes for the track tomorrow and may have my boy get started on digging the 4' deep hole we need for the pedestal.

Still a long way to go but I am making progress.

Southern Indiana, eh? That almost begs for a dirt oval somewhere in your track plan. Lot of work ahead, but sounds like you have a long-term plan. Anxious to see what you come up with, CC. Betting your son is eager to get 'er done too.
