Unhappy Velocity VT64 1/10 4wd Truggy

I'm having gearing issues. I'm running a 10.5 motor 81t spur 18t pinion and a fan but my esc keeps shutting off(thermaling) around 5 mins in. Everything is free there is no binding anywhere. Can anyone help me with this? Suggestions?

So the ESC is thermalling but the motor temps are fine?

What electronics are you running specifically?

Example:

- hobbywing XR10 Pro
- Hobbywing 10.5 V10 motor, timing set at 30 degrees
- etc ...

- Are you running boost, turbo, etc on the ESC, if so what settings?

Where are you topping out down the longest straight on your track?

No Velocity VT64 for me, until there is a VT74! But in my et410, I had issues until I went with a 4 Pole speed control. I'm running the Tekin RX8, but I would think the Hobbywing Xerun SCT Pro would be fine. The 4 Pole speed controls can also run the 2 pole motors. I personally have a hard time driving mine with a 540 can, Tekin 4600. It is stupid crazy fast. I went to a 6.5 turn Maclan V2 motor, and the speed is great but not to much. But I find the 6.5 turn motors get to about 160 degrees, with a fan, and a bit to hot for my liking. Side note, I'm trying to find a 4 pole motor that is more like a 6.5 or 7.5 turn 2 pole motor. I heard a rumor you can run a Tekno et410 32 pitch Spur/center diff in the Associated. My truggy eats 64 pitch spur gears.

I'm running a Tekin rs esc 10.5 reedy motor the motor is getting to hot and the esc shuts off around 5 mins there is no binding anywhere the esc is in blinky so there is no boost or anything so we can't figure out why its doing this.

If I am reading this right you are just using a Tekin RS ESC, not an RSX or anything? I would say thats probably your problem. On my Yokomo YZ4SFT conversion I use the RSX Pro with a 6.5T motor no issues. You may want to look into that.

The Tekin RS has a turn limit of 13.5.

The RS has a limit of 8.5, the RS Spec is 13.5 but it doesn't have any heatsink so a 10.5 in the 4wd truggy might just be too much for it.

Just an FYI, in a pinch I ran the RS Pro Black Edition in my truggy with a 10.5 in the early spring, it was cooler temps indoors so no heat issues and it worked great.

I would say though at a minimum I would get an RSX ESC to run. I htink that will give you what you want.
