Default Define "turns"

I got a new OFNA .21 hyper 8 port and the factory settings say the low end should be 3 turns out and the high 4 turns.....

Now in other hobbies (ie stock cars, motorcycles, etc.) a turn means 1 full rotation of a screw or bolt... but when I set the needles at the suggested settings the thing wont even start. But if I set them where a "turn" is only half of a full rotation (180 degrees) It fires right up and leaves a smoke trail all the way until peak rpm. Im afraid though that I have the needles half as far out as they should be.... am I a complete moron and dont know that a "turn" is only turning a flat head screwdriver from vertical till it reaches a vertical position again?? or what? Help me I completely confused here.

A "turn" is exactly what it implies. 1 full rotation. Factory settings are VERY rich most of the time. It should still run with a fresh plug and good compression but if the engine is worn I can see how it wouldn't.

A lot of today's fuels don't produce much smoke..so that's no longer a way to tell if your engine is running within a safe range of adjustment.
