I always try to pick up a used car as my wet car and find that once you have stripped most of it down to check all the inserts, setting and replace the unknown fluids it's much more work than building a kit....

...except the turn buckles!😃

Default New Platform in the works?

I don’t think it’s been mentioned here yet but there is a YouTube video from TLR driver Andrew Bishop. At the 00:48 mark he’s mentions a new platform copying a lot of what Vision Racing is doing.

I don’t have enough post yet to post a link but if you search “Andrew Bishop TLR” it pops up.

IF TLR has a replacement coming "sometime in the extremely near future", and IF they have a carpet/astro specific version, that would be absolutely fantastic...but, considering that video is 7 months old, and nothing had come to light (or even mentioned), I'm doubting it. Maybe they were working on something, but scrapped it. Whether they were (and scrapped), or not, that's still no reason to have discovered the AC. In the meantime, I built a new AE B6.3 today, for my stepdad. Will soon be pitting or against my XRAY XB2C.

Hello everyone. I am new to the 22 5.0E platform and am wondering who’s carpet setups are preferred for med size, high grip black carpet? With or w/o the front end mod? Running 17.5 stock class and am a novice, so an easy/predictable to drive car is preferred.
Thanks

I had a discussion with a team driver a few weeks ago. They hinted that something was in the works but may be delayed until this summer or fall. This came up when we were discussing how old the 4.0T is getting, but I wasn't totally clear if they were hinting at a new buggy or truck or both.

I certainly hope it’s both - I almost feel like the ship sailed a long time ago on the prospects of a 5.0 based truck. If they are working on production updates to the 22, they may as well incorporate the design features into a new truck as well. Everyone else takes this approach. I can understand if the focus at Horizon is to maximize ROI, but they certainly don’t blink twice about tying up the division’s PM’s and prioritizing licensed RTR’s, which arguably cost a lot more up front due to any licensing fees involved.

Which is exactly why the HH-branded licensed products are outrageously priced. Case in point, the $620 cost of the new Losi RZR Rey Polaris. They HAVE to realize that, pricing it that high, they're going to sell a lot fewer than they expect. There are several RTRs (including HH-branded) that are better for the same money. Heck, there are better ones for as much as $100 less. Hopefully, they don't start following in the footsteps of Disney, pricing themselves out of the competition.

So I picked up a TLR 5.0 second hand, and I'm looking at the mounting points for the front wing in this thread, and they appear to be behind the front shock tower. The manual doesn't have it specced this way. Is this the preferred placement? Do I need a different part to make it work?

Thanks

The high front wing is mounted to the back of the tower, just attach it with the nuts used for the upper shock mount. Lower wing requires a mount: TLR330010

I recommend TLR331058
Thoseplastic mounts break if you look at them sideways.
If TLR331058 is on backorder and not on the shelf at your LHS, Vision Racing has their own version (that came out before TLR's) that you can order from them, or your LHS might have some if they carry Vision Racing products.

With the aluminum front mount, it has paid for itself multiple times. Wings split, instead of mounts breaking.

I used to brake the plastic one. Re-used it by drilling another hole in the middle (where it's pre-drilled).
then I bought the aluminum vision racing one and after the losi one for my other car.
Personally I prefer the TLR one because the holes for the wing are more in the middle of the part so it makes the wing more flush to the car. To my opinion the vision racing part make the wing too far forward.
It's only my opinion.

If you drill the mounting holes all the way through the plastic wing mount and use a little longer screw they won't break near as easy. I haven't broken one since I made that change.
