Yes, my Ruckus started Life as a Torment. I put some 2.8 Pro-Line Masher tires on it and cut the wheel wells off of the torment short course body. I instantly fell in love with my newly transformed Ruckus. I geared it down to 87/19. It's plenty fast and will wheelie on good traction surfaces.

If money is no object it's no where near the best basher on the market. But for 250 bucks it's not bad.

The ECX Torment offers a nice package for the price. The Slash doesn't offer this much.

if you have a local hobby shop i would check with them to see what brand they stock the most and buy something from that brand.that way if you break something you're not waiting on parts

I couldn't disagree more especially since the Slash has the biggest aftermarket out of any SC truck and probably one of the most extensive aftermarkets, period.

One thing I've heard (not sure if true) is that the ECX doesn't allow pinion size changes as the motor is fixed and not adjustable.

And why is the aftermarket so large? Because most Traxxas cars NEED IT! Seems even most Traxxas Fanbois will point out that the basic brushed Slash need about $100 in upgrades to be reliable.

False. Motor mount is slotted. At least for the 1/10 2wd transmission. ECX uses the same gearbox for all the 2wd cars.

Good deal, glad I am wrong on it. My buddy's son has a ECX short course truck and he has done well with it, not much has broke in a couple of years.

If your Slash needs a ton of upgrades you're doing something wrong.

My son's 2wd has been pretty good to him. We have been through a few rear axle carriers, a number of plastic driveshafts, replaced the shock caps with aluminum ones to prevent them from popping off. Other then that it's handled the castle sidewinder 3800kv motor pretty good.

MIP axles are a must IMO. At least for the way I drove mine they were. But mine was ran almost solely on 3s... until I started racing it in a 2wd class.

A box stock brushed slash 2WD on a 2S battery is one of the MOST reliable cars I have seen in my 25+ years of RC racing. it is not the fastest, or most maneuverable truck, but with the stock electronics it is one durable (great to learn with) car.
