Brushless Blitz eating Spur gears.
 
Hey y'all....

looking for an answer to this problem.

I have two different Blitz trucks, one has a reedy 3300 kv, and one has a castle 3800 kv motor, both with Castle sidewinder ESCs.

If I run them on 2s, no problem, but 3s will eat a stock HPI plastic spur, on either truck. in a matter of minutes. I have set them using the paper method, I have set them by feel, I have tried different pinion combos, always the same result.

These trucks were both blitz that I converted to brushless, and the blitz flux has the same part number for the spur, so evidently there is a way to make these gears hold up to brushless power. Robinson racing no longer makes the upgraded gear/slipper combo.

Does anyone have any input as to available upgrades ?

set mesh by EYE.. use a magnifying glass if needed.. very little gap..
for more gear to gear contact..

48 pitch or 32 pitch... gears..

make sure the motor is True Square to motor place and spur gear..
damaged or bad bearings on motor or spur gear shaft can also eat gears.

Does your Blitz have a slipper clutch? If yes, it's best to set it so it slips the first 2 feet of take off. Also, it would be good to turn your punch down on the ESC which is way less stress on the drive train.

check the mesh all the way around the spur to if you aren't, the gears are never perfectly round so while it could be perfect in one spot it could either be super loose in another or super tight.

You could be overheating the gear making it go soft and then it strips/melts, check the temp of the gear while you are running it,

Its also probably not really designed to run on 3s

Big + 1 on those two points the mesh is just one part of the equation goin from 2s to 3 is significant and thus requires some dialing down of initial hole shot/out of the gate punch that needs to have some give ...if that slipper is cranked all the down then it's no wonder the spurs are not holding up and adjust through ESC settings and consider also the surface your riding on, if traction is high bite then adjust accordingly...good luck

My guess on this is that it's more melting the gear instead of stripping them as with the blitz it seemed the gears where on the soft side and any amount of slippage and melt down, so does the slipper pads get wrecked as well ?? Does this happen after a jump, might be driver error as being on the throttle when hitting the ground

When I pull the cover off...

lots of fine shavings in the bottom, all of the teeth off the gear. I set the slipper at about a turn out from all the way down after I ate the first gear, and I can hear it slipping on both trucks when I nail it from a standstill. I replaced the clutch on one of them so far, burnt black and glazed over.

I seem to recall lots of shavings in ours, so what kind of pinion gear are you using, and how long have you had them, if the pinions are getting worn dow, it will eat gears as well, what I said your pinion/spur count and any idea on motor temps as maybe the pinion gear is too small, I remember our gearing and waiting to see your response as still leaning towards over heated spur gear making it brittle and ultimately stripping teeth
