Default Carpet Pin Tires?

I'm a complete noob when it comes to Carpet Off-Road. I've been doing some research and saw some blurbs about using carpet pin tires.
can someone enlighten me on what those are and why they would run them?
Is there an actual branded/type tire you buy off the shelf for this purpose or is this a dirt tire of sorts cut down?

Also - (and this may sound silly) why would you ever need a pin type tire on a carpet track when carpet tracks (such as black CRC) have a reputation of being high grip already?

There is some good information in this thread about Carpet Off-Road.
There is great need for a sarcasm font.

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

Sometimes I post just to look at my avatar.

It depends on what class you are running but both Schumacher and jconcepts makes carpet specific tires.

Agreed with above. Schumacher mini darts or cactus are very popular in the 1/10 buggy class and very reasonably priced.
What are you running?
