Im Looking into a XB8R and...

im looking into a XB8R and its going to be my first kit, i was wonderin if this is a bad idea?

and if its a good idea whats a good motor/pipe combo thats cheap and good for starters (i was thinking .12? or something small like that) i dont need pro race gear, just something to club race, pull start, and bashing (and a quiet pipe)

for a radio im going to get the JR XR3,(a.m., so i can get the spetrum mod. if i get the money) its good enogh for me,

I have no personal experience with the XB8, but Xray does put out quality stuff, so you are assured it's a quality product. For club racing, I would recommend an OS .21 RG and OFNA 053/086 pipe (Depending if you prefer more power on the top end or middle). I hope you mis-typed the part about using a .12, that's way too small for a 1/8 scale.

Cheap, easy to tune and puts out pretty good power.

I missed that part...the OFNA pipes are not exactly quiet either. The only one I'm aware of is the OS 2050, but it's expensive. Let's see what others have to recommend, sorry.

X-Ray is releasing a new XB8-TQ kit that is supposed to have a reconfigured suspension. I have an XB8 and I can't imagine having anything but an X-Ray. The RG is a good choice for an engine. You wouldn't believe how many racers use the RG in their cars. It's easy to tune and holds a tune so you won't have to keep readjusting your mixtures. As far as a pipe is concerned, I wouldn't worry about getting a quiet pipe because they are pretty pricey. Be loud and proud. Depending on the track you are going to run on, a JP1 is good for a tight track with med. straights and a JP2 would be ideal for longer and bigger tracks.

I will run mine around my neighborhood when I am either breaking in a new engine or when I go through a withdrawal of running my car and like you said as long as it is before 11pm they don't say anything. In fact people will usually come out and check it out and talk about how fast they are.

If your not planning on racing, you might want to look at a Mayhem. They work great for bashing andare good for racing as well. RG and a 2050 would be a great combo. Pipe is as much as the engine but it's quiet and will last forever.
