Good buggy/truck for beginner
Hi there
I am new to the rc hobby and am struggling to choose a car. I have looked at the hsp viper brushless as well as hbx quakewave. I also have a friend who will sell me his dex410v3 for really cheap.
What are your thoughts?

The worst possible thing you could do is buy the Durango.
I'm not saying it is a bad vehicle, but...Team Durango has gone belly up. There are no new parts for that thing, and there never will be. You'll have to beg, borrow, and steal parts to keep it running, which is a sucky way to start a hobby.
To narrow down you options, you need to decide what kind, size, and what drive train you want. Do you want a 2wd or 4wd? Then do you want a monster truck, short course truck, or buggy? 1/8th scale or 10th scale? Do you want to "bash", or race?
There is a seemingly infinite list of possible vehicles to choose from these days, especially in the budget RTR range, so you'll have to volunteer more info before anybody can give you meaningful advice.

The best advice i can offer is once you figure out the direction you want to head. Whether it be club racing, or bashing in the backyard. You will absolutely get farther by purchasing used. Anyone starting in this hobby i will always tell buy used. See if its something you enjoy and will continue. This site has a great for sale section. Your money will go soo much farther on here than anywhere else.

I would check out HoBao, RedCat and ECX brands, lots of great entry level stuff from brands that are reputable and can be trusted.
Personally, I would stay away from Traxxas, HPI or any of the Hobbico proprietary brands like ARRMA, Axial, Durango, Duratrax, because Traxxas is in a lawsuit with Hobbico and Hobbico just filed for bankruptcy yesterday. HPI is still recovering from their bankruptcy a few years ago and was sold off, the company hasn't been the same since.

Good ole Traxxas.... suing it's way to a monopoly on the basher/non-race kit market.

Thanks for the advice
Thanks for the advice so far. I’d use the car mainly for bashing in the backyard and around my neighbourhood. I think either a buggy or stadium truck. What’s the difference between 2wd and 4wd?

Personally if used is an option, you can find some really great deals on Associated B5Ms. would be better than those other options you have listed and pretty cheap.

Where are you located? I know someone trying to sell a dex410v3 here locally I think for like $50, mainly due to how hard it is to get parts, so may not be what you want.

atleast one of the models you mention is sold under the name of "Red Cat" here in the States.
Added to the list of questions to narrow down the search, do you want an RTR (Ready to Run/ Race complete package), or are you interested in buying a kit and all the electronics separately? The kit ends up being a much better vehicle, but also is a lot more expensive.
My point is that by your first post, you are looking at two things that are very different. The DEX410 is originally a high end racing kit, and is 4wd.
The other one you mention is a lower end RTR "bash" oriented vehicle. It is 2wd. (I forgot which of the two I looked up...maybe the other is a 4wd?)
You probably know that the RTR comes assembled with every you need to run it, but the kit vehicles comes in pieces, and does not include any electronics. The kit costs more than most RTRs before you start buying electronics. The kit gives you a much better vehicle, but it ends up costing a lot more.
What I said about Team Durango still applies, even if the DEX410 comes as a complete kit. You didn't say if it was complete, or if it was just a "roller" without electronics?
I would only consider the Durango if it is an awesome deal on the electronics. If I bought it, I would plan on putting those electronics in a new kit, not for running the Durango. But keep in mind that used RC stuff is worth maybe 1/2 it's new value, if it is in good condition. (But I consider that Durango chassis to have essentially no value, for reasons stated previously.) But buying used electronics is always a risk, because it could fail 5 min after you buy it.

My Team Durango DESC410 is up for sale right now. The state of a company doesn't tell the state of a vehicle. My car has enough parts to build a second and then still have parts left over. I haven't broken anything on the car to need to replace anything. If someone was to buy it, they would have enough parts to keep them going for quite sometime if they are only looking to get a car to start out and upgrade later.
Used is always a great idea when starting out, but if a car has the right amount of parts, the right support and the right focus for you then i would go for it.
On Durango, Amain still has 500 parts in stock for the durango line, many of which are upgrade parts and other. Buying new allows you to acquire parts you wouldn't normally in such a scenario. Just gotta find the right car for the right deal.

looks like hit and miss to me based on this search here:
https://www.teamassociated.com/parts...oduct_line=all
If I had to guess, it looks like maybe 75% of the parts are currently in stock... it's a very old design, current version is the B6, no guarantee when they might decide to stop supporting the B4 series.

I have a Team Associated RC10B2 and the only parts that I have trouble finding are the Team Kit cvds and the rear chassis plate(I can find the chassis plate for the B3 however). Every now and then some aftermarket goodies pop up on ebay, last week I snagged a bnib pair of Rpm front a arms.

Start with a 2wd buggy, so much easier to maintain and learn on. They are a lot of fun to race and pretty quick as well.
