Yeah I use to run a 007 and loved it (to give an idea how long ago I was racing), but dropping $1-200 extra to get going again is a tough sell.

B6 club racers are good value

Used B6s on ebay are good too because most already come with upgrades:

For carpet/turf, the club racer package was a terrible buy (stand up gearbox, very plastic-y) made worse by the price cut on the "real" B6.

For carpet and bang for buck it is just almost impossible to beat the regular B6 right now, especially since the price cut-
Losi-I consider it a high grip clay weapon, plus the price of entry is over $50 higher
Schumacher- The KC is not really an improvement over the KF2 SE which was a good buggy
Yokomo YZ2- I am confused as to what model comes with what now, but they are pretty expensive, but run very well from what I have seen
Xray XB2- Great buggy (I had one when they first came out) but very expensive

Here is a left field choice:
PR racing S1FM Type R- Designed with ONLY carpet and astro in mind, but local support might be a problem, VERY popular in England for carpet.

I agree with the concensus the B6 is cheap to start but I would say there are a few more things to make it cometetive. Are these all needed maybe not but I have gradually added most of these and the consistent speed my B6 has now is way better than with just a few upgrades.

Brass bulkhead, alum bellcranks and steering plate, alum servo horn, lower front wing, hard front and rear arms, brass weights under battery, front and rear sway bars, slipper eliminator, motor fan and rear axel spacers (instead of longer dog bones). This is about $250. So yeah $250 or less on the kit but about $500 not including tires, wheels, electronics, paint or battery. Do I regret getting the B6? No the local support getting it dialed in has been great. The question is would I do it again? Not sure.

I think the Yokomo YZ2 CA version comes with more in the box for $100 more. I know it needs weight, maybe sway bars and people recommend the 0 offset rear hubs and driveshafts ($75). Hard to say if that would be better than a B6 with $200+ in upgrades.

I also had a 2016 XB2 and at the time was frustrated with the cost of parts. I love the quality of X-ray but there is no way thier outdrives should be 3x the cost of AE or Yokomo. I do think the 2018 XB2 needs the least out of the box to be competitive. So pay upfront or pay later... itís not a cheap hobby any way you cut it.

This is exactly why I wanted to ask this question. The XB2 isnt crazy more expensive then the other cars, and if it hardly needs anything then overall it could be cheaper.

LHS seems to have NO parts for any of these cars, so have to online order everything regardless. =\
