Does the wing matter?
On my Ofna Mbx (modified) I'm trin' to hit 70 mph and I was wondering if the rear wing provides considerable downforce at this speed?

People don't often use the wing as a tuning aid BUT if you run a buggy without a wing the back end does become noticeably looser - I expect it will affect stability at 70mph.

Thanks sosidge, do you have any recomenations for a goog 1/8scale rear wing?
|
sorry, don't run 1/8 scale - just electric!
|
the wing makes a HUGE downforce difference, ESPECIALLY at 50+ MPH

i race touring cars.......but the principles is the same, at anywhere above 35mph, without a wing, you wont make it through a track nearly aswell as with a spoiler. with your 1/8th scale, without a spoiler, your rear end will be much loser at higher speeds, and will not be very stable (again, i have not run 1/8) at 70mph, you better have a wing, or when you go to turn that sucker................
not to burst your bubble, but i highly doubt your 1/8th scale does 70, or even 60, thats not what these cars were designed for |
Nytrochaos
Even ready-to-run nitro car sets w/only .15 sized engines do 60mph+ right out of the box. Like the Traxxas(junk) Nitro 4-Tec.

wings make a big difference
a couple of times in an accident my rear wing has come off my sedan and it severly hurts the cars handling making it almost unbearable to drive 1/8 scale wing would be even more important being as its much larger and body created little to no downforce by itself i use my wing alot to change how the car jumps |
etahn- the 4-tec, altough junk compared to my mtx-3, will hit 60, because it has a 2 speed, a big block .15 and the power to weight ratio of something really light with a lot of power
your 1/8th will not hit 70, or 60 |
Even w/a 2 speed and a Rossi "Black Magic", it won't hit 70? How about w/Rossi Maranello? 44,000rpm
|
first off, you just asked if the spoiler was important........with that kinda question, you should stay the hell away from a rossi
but if for some reason you may be telling the truth, post a couple pics of your car, and then i will be satisfied |
I am not argueing with nitro chaos on the fact you need to stay away from a Rossi if you are unsure of a wings effects at 60 mph, or the fact your buggy will probably not do 60, I have seen some serious competition buggies, K2's with RB C5's in them not hit those speeds, but Nitro, the Traxxas .15 (2.5cc) is a small block motor, there is a lot of hype about it being a big block 15 but it is definately still a regular traxxas small block.
|
thankyou for the support:nod:
and yeah, i herd it was a big block, but havnt really been interested enough in traxxas to find out if the rumors were true. ive been busy building my mtx-3!! today is its virgin run!! |
An 1/8th buggy will hit 70mph no problem... Run a loose clutch and alot of gear, no problem as long as you've got enough radio range.. With off-road race gearing(13/14/15 tooth clutchbell) it won't.. But Kyosho used to make 17-21 tooth clutch bells, and with one of those it'd hit 70 MPH.. It'd be a dog on the bottom end, but it would get there on the top end.. I've had my 1/8th Mugen clocked at 55MPH with 14 tooth clutchbell and an RZ-BV99...
