I did break one of the turnbuckle arms though, so my night was cut short, but so far I'm very happy with how it handles on a high grip surface.
I picked up a pair of 94mm bones TLR232032 just to have a little more of the pin engaged in the outdrive.

Is it worth upgrading to the 4.0 from a 3.0 with the laydown conversion?

That's a loaded question. A debate I keep having with myself. What to do. I believe upgrading to all the 4.0 parts is way too expensive. Better to sell 3.0 and then buy 4.0.
But, I have the 3.0 as well with laydown. Another option is to order the 4.0 upright tranny shock tower to bolt right to the 3.0 laydown. Then you can order the 4.0 shock bodies and shafts and you have the 4.0 geometry for the rear for 50 bucks. The 4.0 chassis is 2 mm longer but I run on a tight indoor track so not worried about that.

Won't you have to buy the new body then?

No. You can put the body/wing mount on the tower and use the same 3.0 holes.

Doesn't the 4.0 come with stiffezel arms and the 3.0 doesn't?

Wow, I didnít think there was that much of a difference. I was under the assumption the new truck was mainly just focused on a laydown tranny with an updated chassis.

Ran Friday night and have to say it was very promising. Im normally a mid to back pack sportsman buggy guy since I dont get to the track much and I was P2 after first round and P3 after the 2nd. In the main I came onto the front straight at the end of the first lap in dead last and worked my way back to 4th. The only guy that had a faster hero lap was running a 7.5 I think where most of us were running 13.5's. Man I miss ST!

Hi guys, just finished building my 4.0T tonight just need to set up my esc and hopefully get to drive it early next week. I built my kit with JP's setup thats posted on the TLR blog page and will post my results with it after the first outing. I race at SDRC raceway which is a medium bite indoor clay track and will be running in the mod class and plan on being more active on here. Frank does a great job answering questions on here but I will do my best to help out as well and post some setup tips that i run across with the truck.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Even after doing all that you are still left with the rear shocks and tower behind the rear axles. Moving all that weight forward is where the 4.0 is still going to have the advantage. You could do something like the Xfactory mod to move the shocks forward, but that mod is just a bandaid fix.

You are probably right. I already moved my shocks to the front on my 3.0. Just flipped the arms from left to right and vice Versa. Spaced the shocks forward and geometry looks good. But the pressure is still behind axel like you mentioned with the tower. I like the idea of the lower COG with the shorter shocks so I will probably order the 4.0 rear tower and shocks to try. Gonna see how she handles with the shocks in front next week first before I do. I think the 4.0 full set up will really benefit carpet/turf and hoping my pseudo 4.0 rear end will suffice on clay. Time will tell. Will keep you updated.
