Default 22t 4.0 diff

Iíve rebuilt the diff on my truck and while Iím trying to break in the diff the head of the diff screw keeps snapping off. Does anybody know why this happens and how to fix the problem.

First, have to admit, I'm not exactly building in the exact order of the manual. While I await delivery of certain parts from "earlier" steps (such as the MIP/MOD Puck System), I skip ahead to other steps (such as building/filling the shocks). Anyway, all the Avid parts arrived a couple days ago, but still waiting for the MIP/MOD delivery...so, I built half the transmission, including the Avid Triad slipper. I'm just hoping I've selected the best white/red pad order. I chose the 81T & 78T spur gears, but decided to start with the 78T. I should mention that I finally decided on a motor - Tekin SpecR Gen3 13.5T. This leads to a few questions, before I continue the build.

First, for those who've used the Avid Triad slipper (especially if used in the 22T), pads currently installed are white/white/red. Is this 'optimal' for a clay track, or should I go slightly less, or more, aggressive? Second, in going with the Tekin motor, should I stick with the 78T spur, or should I switch to the 81T? Finally, for the pinion (again, considering the Tekin motor), what would the most 'optimal' choices be for the 78T, as well as the 81T? I did order (also from Avid) 22T, 23T & 24T pinions...although, if they're all to high/low for the 22T (with Tekin motor & 78T or 81T spur), I can always use them in my 22 5.0 SR, or 22SCT (once I order it).

You might just be setting the diff way too tight. You should sneak up on the correct setting and not have it fully locked down to start.

I've used the Triad/Nova slippers for many years now, and only went to 3x white on loose dirt/wet astro, and white/red/red on carpet. For everything in between, white/white/red shood be good.

Thanks for the info...I put it to use today, as I finished the build. The last of the parts (the MIP/MOD Puck system) arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, while I thought I had a 13.5T laying around...thought I had two Fantom Racing Icon motors (13.5T & 27.5T), but they turned out to be 17.5T & 21.5T...so, I ordered a 13.5T Icon Torque this morning. Even though their website says it'll ship around Oct 7, Jeff said they'll get mine out faster (hopefully by Friday). While I wait, I decided to start building the Axial Capra I had intended to start building after the 22T was complete.

No, it's just a sale on the 4.0 for the holiday season.

There is only so many kits and electronics packages you can buy for a brand convert...

Last 2 race days with my 4.0 I couldn't keep the steering ballcups on for anything. I dropped 5 of 6 rounds and even after I changed out the cups for brand new ones and re-centered the steering it came apart twice in the same round. I did some research and I found the Xray XT2 ball studs for the outer steering arms are 4.9mm x 6mm so I took a shot and got a pair to see what happens. It seems fine running it around my basement without being over tight. I'll post up after my next trackday. Also Lundsford make some 4.8 x 3.5mm hd ballcups but they're straight.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't the 22 5.0 be converted into a 22t by changing the arms, shock bodies, turn buckles, tires, and the body posts? You just have to find someone to make a new shock tower with the 5.0 hole locations.

The chassis on the stadium trucks are quite a bit different (longer) than the buggies.

The chassis is a different length, so the mudguards, body mounting, etc. becomes an issue.

It's kinda funny but someone had a similar idea. But he went the other way, and added the 22 5.0 steering to the 22t 4.0
