Default Technical Questions 124019 for Speed Runs

Hi All,

I am building a WL Toys 124019 for high-speed runs. I am starting to get beyond my technical knowledge and would like guidance on technical issues.

I have installed the 15 T Pinion Gear on a Racerstar 2445 3600kv Motor Senseless Brushless Waterproof and installed the motor on the Motor Mount. But I don't think the stock plastic spur gear will last long with the 15T pinion metal gear and the stock plastic spur gear and 15T pinion gear seems to be slipping, I will open up to confirm. I believe the stock gears are 27T pinion and 44 spur.

I am trying to follow the quadifyrc brushless upgrade. A couple of questions;
  1. Is that correct to use the 15 T Pinion Gear on a Racerstar 2445 3600kv Motor Senseless Brushless Waterproof with stock Spur for speed runs?
  2. I have ordered a replacement metal stock spur gear to replace the plastic gear. What are the best gears to use for speed runs with the 124019 ?
I am using this

Thank you, cheers

Hi all,

I left on message for Stew Mac and I heard back;

"I prefer castle esc. The mamba monster X or the older mamba monster 2 are both really good.

Colt RC make some great Le Monds type bodies. A good motor combo would be the Mamba Monster X and castle 6900kv 1410 motor on 3s"

I was surprised the Mamba Monster X is about the same price as the XR8 Plus.

I would appreciate any suggestions, thank you !

Cheers

Hi All,
Does anyone know what body shell Birmingham GT RC uses on his 124019? His 124019 is the closest I have found to what I would like to build, 124019, Castle ESC, TP motor 3540kv, 4s in parallel, Castle Mamba monster.

I asked him in the comments with no reply and I also asked Delta Plastik USA, they said it was not one of their bodies. Thank you
124019 speed run and about the car 13:37 to 24:22

will esc handle 3 cells ? unlikely and it will be a good smoke show on 4 cells..id go up in pinion size for speed runs 20+

Dear the rc guy

Thank you for getting back to me !

I am starting with the HobbyWing QuicRun 1/16 Brushless WaterProof 30A ESC WP-16BL30 and Racerstar 2445 3600kv Motor Senseless Brushless Waterproof until I can get things sorted.

With the brushless setup and the smaller 15T Pinion Gear 44T stock plastic spur, the car is slower (22 mph) than with the brushed motor and 27T pinion and 44T plastic spur (32mph).
  1. Should I go back to the stock 27T pinion and 44T plastic spur? I have ordered a metal 44T spur gear.
  2. Is there a way to determine gearing and make the gearing easier to change?
I plan on buying a Castle 6900kv 1410 and Castle Mamba Monster once I can get the chassis sorted.

Thank you !

That ESC can handle 3S but definitely won't work with 4S.

Dear gigaplex

Thank you for your reply!

Can you give any feedback on the gearing ?

With the brushless setup and the smaller 15T Pinion Gear 44T stock plastic spur, the car is slower (22 mph) than with the brushed motor and 27T pinion and 44T plastic spur (32mph).

I don't know where it should be geared but there's a big difference in those two pinions you've tried. Generally, the bigger pinion will go faster but will lose acceleration. Check temperatures of the motor and ESC after each run.

Thank you gigaplex

Very much appreciated. I have ordered the stock metal gears with (with the larger pinion), I will test next week.

Cheers

Hi All,

I am trying to learn about gearing and found R/C Gearing 101. If I am understanding correctly, for high-speed runs you want about 1:1, pinion, and spur.

If the stock gears are 27T pinion and 44T spur, that is a total of 71 or a desired 35 pinion and 36 spur. I will start researching 48 p gears.

Also found a great thread about modified 124019 cars.

Cheers

I'm not sure where that 1:1 ratio comes from for the pinion and spur. The internal ratio of the drive train, tire diameter, mass of the vehicle, and motor performance all make a massive difference.

1:1 just gets you the most possible speed out your gearing, making it essentially direct drive with the only reduction being in the diff.

The problem I found was WLToys use an odd gear pitch... something like mod 0.5.... and the motor mount isnt adjustable. Maybe you worked around that all, but it sounds like you're still playing with the stock gear ratio.

I am still using my 124017 which is just the 124019 with brushless. I have installed a slipper clutch and 48p gearing on mine. Currently running a 52t spur gear with a 34t pinion. Motor is a 380 size surpass hobby 8.5 turn sensored with a hobbywing quickrun Bl120 esc on 2s pb is currently 56mph and on 3s pb is currently 67 mph. Still have a ton of room for gearing as the motor runs super cool. I want to see what i can get out of it before i go to my 540 size 4.5 turn sensored motor. I tried to do ost a couple pictures of the gearing mod but site wouldn’t allow me to.

Did you throw in your 540 yet and what results did you get?
