RC4WD Gelande II D90
I have been searching for how to extend the wheelbase of the G2. I can't seem to find any answers. The stock wheelbase is 10.8", which makes it hard to find an alternative body that would fit. I like the D90 body, but want to try something different. Also, I am limited on the tires with the D90 body. Can I just use longer links? If I use longer links, should I only extend the rear or both?

Generally, I find it's easier to first fit the body to the chassis and then adjust the links to suit.
I measure the length of the chassis and find a body that's close. Then drop the body on and see how it lines up in relation to the bumpers...and then adjust the bumpers to suit. Once that's set up right, then I adjust the links to where they fit best....sometimes the front, sometimes the rear, sometimes both. I have spacers I use to tweak wheelbase, or I use longer threaded posts from Axial. Either/or. I've made them from scratch in the bast, but with hand tools it's very much a pain. I have never tried this. So If I want to go to 12.3" (most of the proline body has this wheelbase). I would need to extend the wheelbase by approximately 1.5" (38mm). Do I extend all links (upper and lower) by the same length? RC4WD has the different sized extenders for $10.99/4 pack.

Yes, generally upper and lower get the same length extension.
Sure, you can do it that way. You'll need some of these too: https://www.horizonhobby.com/m3-x-20...0%29-vtr235328 https://www.horizonhobby.com/m3-x-30...0%29-vtr235330 I'd recommend getting a pack of each. The longer ones come in handy when using spacers. Great for fine tuning. Sometimes a bodies listed wheelbase is close, but you might want to fine tune where they wheels are in the wheelwells. For example, I just bought a Pajero body for one of my SCX10's, but the listed wheelbase is too long - I had to redo the links a bit to get the axle centered in the wheel opening. Used shorter links and some spacers to fine tune it out. Drives me nuts when the wheels are off center. |
