Default Crawler ESC / motor issue...Any ideas??

Hey guys was having an issue that seems weird and I can't figure it out. I am a very experienced RC guy but maybe I'm missing something in the crawler world as I only do it once in a while. I'm fixing a Losi comp crawler for a buddy. It HAD a Novak Goat ESC and motor. Well the guy burned up the ESC. He wanted a cheap fix so I installed a new Justock Hobbywing ESC in it. I programmed the ESC for crawler mode and calibrated my throttle of course. When I tried to use it there was this delay between forward and reverse. In other words, if the truck was about to flip over backwards, the delay was long enough that you couldn't save it by nailing reverse. Other then that things seemed fine. Knowing full well that this was not right I tried one of my ESC's in it. Again it's another Hobbywing but its the V3.1. Again I set ESC to crawler mode and calibrated my throttle. Same thing. So I then tried to reduce the nuetral range in the ESC. Same thing.
I'm afraid to go an buy another ESC thinking it's going to do the same thing. Wondering if anyone experienced this with Hobbywing? Or maybe the Novak motor is no good? Just doesn't seem like a motor problem to me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Otherwise I may just have to buy a motor and ESC combo to get this over with. Thanks!

That is the reverse lag everyone talks about. Try an Axial AE-5

Try different firmware, one of them doesn't have a delay. I used to use a 60a xerun in my wraith with a 10.5 and it worked well.

Pretty sure it was mod 1.something
