Default Building Crawler from scratch -Advice?

I need to build a crawler, (if you saw where I live you'd know why - my ancient restored Procat is fun, but a bit too fast for the home site!)
I'm looking for advice on the best/cheapest components to look for to design and build a crawler. I can't really afford to buy one unless I can get a cheap/broken 'roughie' to work with, so I'm thinking of finding drivetrain components - diffs, suspension swing arms etc. I can fabricate a chassis and all sorts of other components. For the power source I have a nice low-use Robbe Planeta geared motor that I used in an aircraft many years ago. (I assume you guys are using brushless motors spec'd for high torque low speed), the Planeta is geared about 3.7:1 which I reckon could be pretty useful on a crawler. I guess I'd be looking at 1/10th scale using this motor, maybe 1/8th if I keep the rig nice and light (It's a 500 size can motor and good Robbe quality). -Opinions?
My main question is, what drive-train and suspension components would you recommend I look for that are easily and cheaply available?

Check ebay for a redcat everest there about $130 shipped and good buy for the money. Just to buy decent axles from axial is close to 100 and a trans is another 40 thats just to start. You can use other trans but hard to build your own axles.

Thanks for the tip hotrod, but TBH tiny 1/16th scale ain't going to do it for me at all! I see what you mean about axles, trannie prices. Eeek!

Well that looks okay eh? ... Until you see the price of postage to Australia.
Price of Crawler 165 Aussie dollars, and cost of postage 380 Aussie dollars.
Ya gotta laugh eh?
