Thinking about Crawling

Thinking about Crawling
I have done alot as far as rc cars and trucks go, I have gone fast, I have flown high and built them tough and speed was the name of the game. Now I think I want to slow down a little and try a crawler because it seems a little more technical to me. So my question is what would be a good entry level RTR rig that would get me in on the ground floor to start crawling. I dont want to star off by building some custom 2k dollar rig and not enjoy it. I just want to purchase something RTR and give it a go before I toss abunch of money at it. I have been looking at an Axial Wraith but I dunno. What are you guys and gals opinions on a decent starter rig?

What about if its not crawling but trail trekking you want? Whats a good chassis?

Axial has shifted as of late away from slow technical crawlers. The Wraith and Ridgecrest both are a little too fast out of the box for slow crawling. Both are suitable starting points but I would immediately swap the gearing. I have an extensive guide written on motor, ESC and gearing written up on RCCRAWLER.COM if you want to venture over there.
A 2.2 size truck will be more impressive to a new user than a 1.9 size SCX based rig.

I didn't realize it was you Harley what's up? Best guy to get advise from. Also has a lot of great builds. I like 1.9, it's more challenging.

Harley is the crawling king. He knows what is up!
I think you would be most impressed with a xr-10 from axial. You can find them in the classifieds. For me moa is the way to go. They are discontinued but you can still find parts everywhere. Although vanquish parts are getting next to impossible to find.
It is by far the most capable class.
Personally I would stay away from rtr. I would take my time in the classifieds and find a great deal. Craigslist is great too, you can find all kinds of deals on complete packages with some mods already installed. When you actually try a crawler in the rocks you'll be hooked, I guarantee.
Welcome to rctech Harley. I based my xr build off your thing build and I,m loving it. So smooth its crazy.
Now if I could only find a set of vanquish upper link mounts.
Hint hint hint
Here's some pics to motivate you.
Spread the stoke!

I've had nearly everything from scalers to comp rig and I must say I enjoyed them all. However I do prefer my xr10 over any I've had in the past. It just amazes me every time I take it out.
If I had the money again I wouldn't buy the kit however...I would just build it from scratch as there is very little stock left on it.
The question is, what terrain are you going to run on? There's no point buying a comp crawler if you only have mud and water and visa versa.

I started with a Losi Comp Crawler but there are very few comps around here. Driving it by myself on rocks and whatnot was boring. It was fun to drive, but doing it alone was boring.
Then I got an scx10 and started trailing with groups of friends from the track. Now I'm driving a Wraith and the scx10 is for my friends to come with me. The Wraith isn't done being customized yet. But are they ever really done?
