Axial Has a couple. Tamiya makes a bunch. Proline makes a bunch of bodies that are ptreey realistic that will fit on a number of chassis kit's. Some guys go to Toys R Us and get the RC kit's there with the realistic bodies and put a hobby level chassis inside of that body.

The scx10 is a killer rig. I have one and love how nice it is. Iam not a big fan of the old truck body but it is real easy to find bodied to replace it with. I am puting axials honcho body with cage bed on mine. RC4WD.com has real nice scale rigs that are very detailed (transfer cases and scale motors) if you want to go that route.

Some of these were already mentioned:

Axial
SCX10 (Couple different variations available)
AX10 (you would need to purchase an aftermarket scale chassis to turn this comp crawler into a scaler)

RC4WD
They offer many scale kits and parts

Tamiya
CC-01
CR-01
High-Lift/High-Lux (3 speed transmissions and Tamiya's awesomely detailed hard bodies)

this is the komodo 1.9 kit from ckrccrawlers.com

this is a solid truck, and unlike the axial of tamiya kits, is all aluminum

The plastic in the Axial or Tamiya kit's is fine. Parts are readily available for the Axial's and they actually turn. Axial's work very well in stock form, RTR or kit versions. I have never seen a Komodo that I like or that I think works well.

Axles seem strong but who knows. Steering knuckles look weak. The design of the axles and steering knuckle allow of almost no turning. I'd be surprised if the wheel's turned 10* either way. The Axial RTR Defender is about $30 more in my local shop than the Komodo is and in my opinion gets you a better truck and more stuff, and more room for upgrades later.

I would go with the Axial or the Tamiya kit's personally.

The Komodo is made up of knock offs of other companies designs.
There solid but not ready to crawl without some changes. The stock tires are way too stiff and so are shocks. They come with internal springs that are way to stiff. Outta the box there good for bashing around a parking lot but far from being ready to crawl.

I have a SCX-10 myself. It comes with a scale looking metal channel frame and theres a bunch of body options and aftermarket support.

Aluminum is not always a good thing on RCs. This is especially true in crawlers where having a low center of gravity is so important.

so we are clear, he is looking for a scaler. scalers do far more than crawl rocks. comp rigs are for rocks. scale trucks are for mud water trails some rocks and any other type of offroad scale fun. I only posted the komodo for the price and another option.there is also many trucks made by rc4wd, they are mostly alum- minus the axle housing and are twice the price.

Yes, I should have said scaler not crawler. But let's be real here. Most scalers do some sort of crawling whether that be rocks, sticks, hills, etc. My comment still applies.

Hard to go wrong with the scx10 by axial. right out of the box its a real nice rig, I love the metal frame. Lots of after market stuff for it also.
