I like the idea (kinda), but the included motor/esc/servo leave a lot to be desired. However, assuming the market is for newer drivers, the price point is good in comparison to the other rtr rigs out there. Is likely the best performing rtr as far as chassis goes.

Ya, it's a Great point for a rtr rig. Compare this to a scx10.3 rtr, I think this has a leg up.

Radio looks okey to be RTR, digital is nice with foam wheel.
The ESC is junk. This rig is very capable and have alot awsome features, high quality parts. This needs 80a HW 1080 ESC offcourse. Motor is okey. Wish they sell this with Quickrun 1080 ESC and Programmer Card (led) included in the box and asking 499$ 20bucks more, alot better esc with nice setting, modular, controll. This is a Game Changer ESC comparet to what it has now. Vanquish should have made this 499$ with 1080 ESC That would be awsome. And they could done this very easy. This rig deserves that ESC |
This might swing me to finally get back to running a crawler.

They should offer it without electronics as a roller:nod:

Just put your own Motor. ESC and Servo-. Use own radio, just buy extra receiver. This Crawler deserves Brushless Combo. Second best option would be like it is RTR , but With HW 1080 ESC. I dont understund why they did release this with that Crap ESC. Because this rig is very Capable. And we all know that 1080 ESC with Programmer Card is a true Game Changer. A really true Crawler ESC with great Settings/parameters easy set up with included Led Programmer Card. |
I've had my Phoenix RTR for two weeks now and have run about 10 2200mah packs through it.
Some thoughts. The suspension works great and the shocks were properly built from the factory. They seem evenly damped and had no leaks. The adjustable spring perches on the coilovers were all out of whack but easily adjusted in like 10 seconds. The steering servo is weak. It was ok for the first day or so but lost power fast. Now, it's painfully weak. The truck included silly things like the front crossmember which is molded like a radiator with a dual cooling fan shroud and it actually has little fans inside that are bolted in. This part could easily have been substituted for a cheap crossmember and the cost put into another component. Scale, yeah... but you wouldn't see the fans unless the body was off. I removed mine completely and made a kydex battery mount next to the steering servo to hold a small 2200mah 3s pack. The tires are dog water. I immediately put Proline 2-stage foam in them and I feel like the tires still really held the truck back. They were tested on sandstone, granite, red and grey shale, concrete rubble, loamy soil, etc. They shed clay mud better than I thought they would and flex really well, and I like the way they look, but those are the only positives. When I swapped to Hyrax knockoffs, the performance increase was notable. The cheapo plastic kinda-beadlock wheels didn't do a good job of holding the beads either. So, the wheels and tires get two thumbs down. This ESC/motor combo has sufficient power but the low speed modulation is unsatisfactory. My TRX-4 High Trail crawls MUCH slower with much better control in mode 5. I was really surprised how bad the modulation was on the vanquish. However, the killer suspension made up for the lack of crawl and the truck still does amazing things. I like the radio so far. It was easy to adjust endpoints and configure channels when I added servos for Dig and OD. The menu's for expo's and other functions are fairly intuitive so they did a good job with the UI. The steering endpoints were really weird from the factory. I think they were set to about 25 degrees of steering angle. The truck is capable of much more than that. I didn't measure the angles but I think it's well past 45 degrees now. I don't like the location of the body clips or the front pivot, but that's not just on the RTR. The truck is a lot of fun to drive and I am happy to have it, but I would not say its the best RTR or anything like that. I might agree that its a great RTR which, when upgraded, has a slightly higher potential than some other RTR's. If I had it to do over, I would just buy the kit because after two weeks I already want to replace the steering servo, wheels, tires, battery tray, ESC, Motor, and probably a couple other little things. By comparison, I have had my TRX-4 High Trail for a month and have only felt the need to replace the steering servo. I have modded it, but those are mods like brass and trimming etc, which have to be done to the Vanquish too. |
A huge step towards making the Phoenix RTR suck a whole lot less.

This would make it difficult for stores other than themselves to have stock, but with the material they have and the compatibility between axles and trucks, I would have the option of buying VS4 to taste, choosing tranny, choosing axles, etc. and giving them the option to make custom KITs. .. I personally think the Phoenix is a very good option, but at most we prefer the normal VFD , nobody wants cheaper kit than PRO or ULTRA for spend a lot op money in servos ... It is illogical
