Wheels and Tires and Foam

I am looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on my Redcat Gen 8 Axe edition. Looking for some recommendations from everyone. Heard Proline tires are good. Also, wheels by Vanquish and RC4WD are the best. Would love to hear everyones thoughts.

Thanks!

Endless possibilities. For pure traction on the rocks, as well as great performance in almost any conditions, the Proline Hyrax in the Predator compound are considered about the best. I have a set on my Enduro and they're like glue on rocks. As for wheels, that's more or less a personal preference thing. I've got cheap ebay wheels on all of my crawlers, and I have no complaints with any of them.

On my Gen8, I'm running aftermarket wheels and foams, but I'm still using the stock tires. The stock tires, while nowhere near as good as the Hyrax, aren't bad tires once you get rid of the stock foams. I'm running 4.25" Crawler Innovation Deuces Wild Comp Cut foams (Medium in the back, soft up front) and they helped a lot.

Thanks so much for your input. Super helpful. And your Gen8 looks awesome. Where did you get it painted? It looks super rad!

Also, I'm looking at getting some aluminum wheels. Are there certain wheels or wheel types that are compatible? Specifically, in how they attach to the axels?

thanks. I painted the truck myself. Mine was one of the limited clear body editions offered to beta testers.

Wheels are standardized. They mount to a 12mm hex. Any 1.9 crawler wheel should work.

Thanks for the info and the video. Loved it.

Are you running Injora wheels? Vanquish?

DRTMI 03-02-2020 05:39 PM

Vanquish is overrated. I have four sets of cheap Chinese wheels and an old set of RC4WD M/T Classics. I love my chanquish wheels 4 sets for the price of one, and they come with SLW hubs included.

Thanks for the tip!! I'm looking for some decent aluminum wheels...don't want to spend a fortune but definitely want aluminum. Found some really cool RC4WD ones but am worried about compatibility. Got some new Proline tires I'm excited to try out!

Got some RC4WD wheels and Pro-line tires and dual stage foams.

Any one have recommendations on installing the tires onto the wheels? Not having much luck just pressing down on the beadlocks.

It's a pain. I like to put something under the wheel. It pushes the lower bead lock ring against the center piece. Helps the lower ring stay in place when you push from above. It's no fun all the ways I have tried. Intrested to hear other input on this.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I actually got the wheels built and the tires installed this weekend. I put a nut under the bottom of the wheel to keep it propped up and to keep pressure on the front bead. It helped a lot. It’s definitely a major pain it the butt and I’m happy they’re done.

Eeehm..on the first count you are correct but chinese copies are not better , only cheaper . With soft compound tires they eat the rails of the tires in notime ...learned that the hard way :/

Agood all around tire is also the Duratrax Deepwood and its reasonable priced.

I really love my JConcepts Landmine tires. They are super soft and grippy and I feel like they are better than the Hyrax, though I'm not sure what compound the Hyrax's were when I tried them out.

Pit Bull rock beast and Proline Hyrax have been my go to tires for crawlers and 1.9 U4RC racing. Crawler innovations makes a great dual stage foam I believe called the nova. I like to trim down the rear foams just a little to get more sidewall movement under load if you are crawling. I know they are pricey but the Vanquish Method race wheels are incredible and very well made. Pick up extra ring bolts.

I have also had really good success with the Amazon prime “injora” brand. I bought a set of replica hyrax tires on plastic bead lock wheels and they were very good
