Ok, got the idea now! Thanks Soze!

Finally took the HoBao on its maiden test run. As expected that front bumper is challenging. Overall, it did pretty decent though. Can't wait to get it out to my main crawl spot at CDM Rocks.

Got tired of waiting to get a chance to 3D print a Mercedes emblem for the spare tire cover, so I started the G-Wagonization of my DC1.

Parts:

Team Raffee Twin-5B 1.9 Beadlocks
Pro-Line 1.9 BF Goodrich KM3 XL G8
Traxxas Bronco Spare Tire Assembly

Out with the China-locks + Duratrax Deep Woods. In with the Team Raffee Twin 5B + Pro-line BFG KM3 XLs.

Sanded down and re-painted Traxxas Bronco spare cover...minus the Merc emblem.

Closer to becoming a G-Wagon.

IMO, it looks better than the G-Wagon body that Traxxas recently announced for the TRX4.

Default Question

Hi hi! Thanks for sharing this wonderful build!
This is my first RC kit ever and I just bought it days ago.

Last night I have completed assembling packages 1 & 2.
I’m planning to upgrade the wheels and tires to the beadlock ones.

Some questions in mind:
- are hobao optional parts worth getting?
- can we setup 4 wheel steering mix on this kit?
- I have read about cvd popping/breaking. Anyway to prevent this?
- is the stock 27T brushed more than enough?
- any other body shell that can be mounted on this?
- I’m getting 3rd party wheels.. is it recommended to paste lead weights on it for more stability? All 4? Or front 2?

Thanks in advance!!

I haven't gotten any upgrades yet, but I will get some soon. The brass diff covers look like they're worth getting if you plan to stick with the stock body since the body is heavy and big. They are expensive though. The other item that looks worth getting are the dual stage springs.

I'm not sure about the 4wheel steering, you'd have to get the necessary parts. You might have to find a way to mount the rear servo. I can't remember if the kit has a axle mounted servo option.

I have not experienced this myself, so I can't really comment on this. The CVDs on this kit looked pretty strong to me though.

The stock motor is a 550 can size. So 27T is enough. If you really wanted to you can move to a 21T 550 can motor.

I'm sure you can mout other body shells, I've seen some other people do it.

I don't like putting extra rotational mass besides the wheels. If you do... I'd probably put them on all 4.

Cool! Thank you so much for your inputs!

Yes, I’m also looking at the brass diff cover and the dual stage springs. Maybe I’d try out the stock version first. Those option parts are really expensive.

TS, this is really a nice post.
anyway, I just got the DC1 recently. I am wondering is there other compatible body? I was looking at Pro-Line Racing 1946 Doge Power Wagon. Wheel Base: 12.3" (312mm)

So yeah, the DC1 is definitely a more "trail" oriented truck. It's fantastic in that regard and the chassis is rock solid durable.

Although it's more trail oriented, I couldn't resist taking it out of its comfort zone and testing it out on the rocks at CDM.

For a trail oriented truck, it did pretty respectable despite the large body and stiff springs on the shocks. I'm now tempted to see how part I can push it by upgrading the servo, and some upgrade parts I picked up for the DC1 when I was in Taiwan.

There's a HoBao sale going on right now!

A little birdie told me that there will be a HoBao sale on their site (https://www.hobao-usa.com).

Personally I have the DC1 and the Hyper MT Plus II. The DC1 is a solid trail truck and the Hyper MT Plus II is a beast of a truck. Both are tough as nails!

Looks like some vehicles have additional discounts after you add them to cart. (ex: Hyper MT Plus II) https://www.hobao-usa.com

If you order, mention revolutionx in the order notes. It'll help me potentially work out something with them in the future! Thanks!

Finally got the HoBao DC1 out again for another crawl at CDM. It was time to refresh my memory on how this thing drove. It was fun to take a break from hardcore crawling and drive more on the scale side.
